Mantle of Thorns is a newly introduced sorcery in Elden Ring, courtesy of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. This spell comes from those whose beliefs were cast aside, conjuring the unyielding thorns of the scadutree to envelop the caster.
Although classified as a sorcery, Mantle of Thorns has its roots in the magic of the faithful, requiring a level of Faith to wield. Uniquely, it only harms enemies upon physical contact when the caster rolls into them, making it a fantastic option for Player versus Player (PvP) encounters.
In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to locate the Mantle of Thorns sorcery and offer tips on how to effectively use it to inflict bleed damage on your foes.
Where to Find Mantle of Thorns in Elden Ring

To obtain the Mantle of Thorns sorcery, you’ll need to defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit located in the Church District area of the Shadow Keep. Access to this field boss is granted after you drain the water in the Church District.

Start your journey from the Church District Highroad site of grace, heading northeast until you reach the Church District Entrance. Navigate the rooftops of the submerged area and proceed to the far side while avoiding hazards like Fire Blob enemies and Fire Knights.

Drop down into one of the buildings and take the second left to exit. Climb the ladder to access the rooftops and make your way to the end where a large lever awaits.

Pull the lever to drain all water from the Church District area.
After pulling the lever, descend and quickly turn around to go through the door into a lower platform area.

Jump across the platforms to reach the bottom of the Church District. Follow the marker on your map (a small arena) to locate the Ulcerated Tree Spirit.

This boss behaves similarly to others encountered in the base game but boasts higher HP and attack strength. Upon defeating the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in the Church District, the Mantle of Thorns sorcery will be yours.
