Hades 2 has recently rolled out the Warsong Update, which brings some new resources to the Summit. These resources can be somewhat overlooked, especially with dangers like falling debris and swarming Polyps that threaten Melinoë. Among the new items are resources for the Spade, Pick, and hand gathering.
A new seed, containing Plankton, fits right in with the Summit’s serpentine and slimy aesthetic. When planted, it yields the Snake-Reed. In this guide, we’ll show you how to locate Plankton, how to plant it, and what to do with the unique Snake-Reed.

How to Obtain Snake-Reed
Locating Plankton
In the Summit, like in every other region, you’ll find Digging Spots where Melinoë can gather Plankton.
The Warsong Update has changed the way Gathering Tools and Familiars function: now, the Familiar enhances your chances of finding particular resources instead of the tool itself.
To boost your odds of getting Plankton, bring Hecuba with you. By using the incantation Attending a Faithful Beast, you can give your familiars a ten percent bonus for their resource type.
You can find Hecuba in the Fields of Mourning and recruit her with a Witch’s Delight. Treating her with additional gifts increases the chances of locating Digging Spots!
First, you must have the Silver Spade unlocked. Hopefully, you’ve already done this if you’re at the Summit. If you haven’t, you need to unlock the Pick first, which requires one Moly and the incantation Night’s Craftwork, followed by ten silver to obtain the Spade.
Remember to have the Reagent Sensing incantation ready; it will help Melinoë identify any gatherable resources in the area.
Cultivating Snake-Reed
To summon two Soil Plots at the Crossroads, you’ll need the Flourishing Soil incantation. This requires Melinoë to gather six Moly and use one at the Cauldron to cast it.
You’ll want to have both Rich Soil and Verdant Soil on hand as Plankton takes a lengthy 77 Time Units to grow. Be sure to keep some spots available for other plants! Time Units are measured by your current location or affected by specific actions like visiting the Hot Springs or Fishing Docks with companions.
Rich Soil requires three Lotus to cast, while Verdant Soil needs one Garlic and one Wheat.
The Warsong Update has also reworked some incantations, including Observance of Gaia’s Secrets. Previously intended to provide an extra chance of finding additional resources when gathered by hand, it now grants an additional 2 percent chance of finding one more Seed from Soil Plots when harvesting. This is particularly beneficial for resources like Plankton, which are tougher to acquire.
How to Utilize Snake-Reed
With more major updates anticipated before the official release of Hades 2, there will likely be additional uses for Snake-Reed. For now, it’s required for the new Path to Desired Blessings incantation, which helps you view the requirements for various Boons in the Book of Shadows.
