Grounded 2 offers two types of buggies that you can obtain by hatching and taming insects you find in eggs. Currently, the available options are the Red Ant Soldier and the Orb Weaver Spider. There are plans to add more, like ladybugs, as the game continues to grow and change.
Getting a buggy in Grounded 2 is straightforward. You need to build a hatchery, then place an insect egg inside and wait for it to hatch into a mount. Once hatched, it becomes a rideable insect that you can use and fight alongside.
Here’s how to get one:
- Continue the main story until you earn your first Optical Disc and start the Egg Hunt quest.
- Spend 500 Science points at the Ominent Science Shop to unlock the “Hatchery Bundle.”
- Use the blueprints to build a hatchery, which requires several materials like Weed Stems, Acorn parts, and Mite Fuzz.
- Find an insect egg—initially, the egg is in the Hatchery Anthill, but more detailed guides are available for specific eggs like the Red Soldier Ant.
- Place the egg in the hatchery along with the materials needed for the saddle, such as Grub Hides, Sprigs, and Acorn Shells.
- Wait for the egg to hatch, with the time varying based on the egg type.
- When ready, manually trigger the hatching process, and your new buggy will be ready to ride! It will be stored in the Ant Hill when not in use.
Buggies provide significant advantages: they speed up travel, attack enemies, have unique abilities, carry extra inventory, and can transport large objects. However, they can’t follow you across certain terrains like icy or cold areas, so you won’t bring one on all adventures. To summon your buggy, press the right button on the D-Pad (Quick-Select), and it takes about 12 seconds to appear from storage. You can dismiss it by walking up and holding the B button.
Right now, two mounts are confirmed:
- Red Soldier Ant: It can bite through dead roots, carry many items, and influence nearby Worker and Soldier ants—turning them into allies or making them passive.
- Orb Weaver Spider: It can jump high, roar to scare smaller creatures, and fire webs to trap enemies and cross web bridges without slowing down.
More buggy types and improvements are expected in future updates, including ladybugs in the winter patch and watery buggies later on.
Buggies can’t die permanently; they have a health bar. When their health drops to zero, they are downed. You’ll need to walk up to them and hold the X button to revive. If not revived in time, they are sent back to the Nest and need several minutes to recover.
Having a buggy makes traveling easier and faster, especially once you’ve upgraded your Omni-Tool, which helps you explore distant areas and gather rare resources. Multiplayer support allows friends to join your adventures, making the game even more exciting.
