Mount Hothead is a volcanic area you can explore in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Initially, when you arrive, you might see that the lava isn’t flowing, but don’t worry—this is just temporary. By completing various quests in the region, you’ll have the chance to activate the volcano.
One of the main quests you’ll undertake is aptly named Fire Up The Volcano. In this guide, we’ll provide you with details on how to complete this quest and unlock the Caldera in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. We’ll also list the prerequisites since the quest isn’t available right from the start.
Prerequisites to Begin Fire Up The Volcano
To start the Fire Up The Volcano quest, you must achieve friendship level 11 with Retsuko and finish the quest titled Enraging Ruins. Enraging Ruins takes place in the same area and requires that you have achieved friendship level seven with Retsuko and completed the Power Up The Gate quest.
Once you complete these requirements, you can kick off the Fire Up The Volcano quest.
Starting the Fire Up The Volcano Quest
First, you need to talk to Keroppi, who can be found at the entrance of a cave on Mount Hothead. You don’t need to search for him; simply look for his icon located on the map to the far left of the central mailbox. After chatting with Keroppi, you’ll learn that lava has stopped flowing, and he’s eager to resolve the issue.
Next, you should report back to Retsuko about the problem. Then, return to Keroppi with Retsuko by your side and head into the cave together.
Exploring the Inner Volcano
Inside the cave, your main goal is to have Retsuko transform into Aggrestuko and sing to dislodge rocks and restore the lava flow. There are three lava pools (plus the Caldera) where this process takes place.
First Lava Pool
You’ll find yourself in the first lava pool immediately after entering the cave. After a brief conversation with Retsuko and Keroppi, Retsuko will sing and fill the chamber with lava. To cross over, you’ll need to jump between square stones, being careful not to stay on one for too long, as they will eventually disappear. Once across, hop into the minecart to reach the next chamber.
Second Lava Pool
When you arrive at the second lava pool, you’ll enter a small area with an upward ramp. Keep climbing until you find another minecart, which takes you to a section with staircases on both sides. If you head up the left staircase, you can find a treasure chest.
Here, Retsuko will sing again, causing the lava to start flowing. Now, crossing will be more complex, as there will be two routes. The right path is the main way to go, but you can venture left to find a Stamina Apple Slice treasure. Afterward, make your way to the right. On the rocky platform, you can open another chest and spot Gudatama for a photo opportunity.
Third Lava Pool
In the chamber following the second pool, head north to find another minecart. This large chamber also has a chest on a rock “island” to the left of your entrance. Once you grab the chest, take the cart into the next area.
Keep following the quest marker until you reach the final indoor lava pool. More singing will happen, and a straight line of tiles will appear. Quickly run across these tiles and step through the opening, leading you outside to the Caldera.
Filling the Caldera
Before starting this part, make sure to interact with the mailbox next to the entrance so you can quickly travel to the top of the Caldera later.
Upon entering the Caldera, you’ll discover that it’s also devoid of lava. Retsuko will attempt to sing once more, but she needs your support. You’ll receive the Concert Outfit, which visually turns you into a volcano, complete with a Volcano Smoke hat! Once you’re dressed, talk to Keroppi and sing along with him to get the lava flowing again.
Completing the Fire Up The Volcano Quest
When the lava starts to flow, Kiki and Lala will appear to express their gratitude for restoring the volcano. This earns you the Mount Hothead Star Fragment as a reward. After they leave, the quest is complete!
After finishing, to your left, you’ll find some lost luggage, which is a quest item for Lost Luggage belonging to Keroppi. Don’t forget to give it to him. Nearby, you’ll also spot another Gudatama for some fun snapshots.
At the Caldera, you may notice a damaged circular area; this is the Saunarator, which unlocks through quests beginning with Mount Mystery. But for now, you can focus on enjoying the completion of your task!
