Disney Dreamlight Valley has finally released the thrilling conclusion to Storybook Vale, introducing a new antagonist, Maleficent. While she was hinted at during the end of Part 1, her full quest line wasn’t available until now.
Spoiler Alert: This article includes spoilers for Storybook Vale Part 2: The Unwritten Realms.
In Part 2, titled The Unwritten Realms, players can complete Maleficent’s saga and officially make her a friend. However, unlocking her quests can be quite a challenge, offering a series of puzzles and tasks that must be solved first.
Kick Off The Unwritten Realms With A Storm Of Stories Quest
Begin Storybook Vale Part 2 & Uncover The Villagers’ Dilemma
Provided you’ve already completed all previous content in Storybook Vale, including unlocking all biomes and finishing character quests, you should find a letter from the Lorekeeper in your mailbox after updating your game. The Lorekeeper explains that a strange illness is spreading among the villagers, prompting you to head back to Storybook Vale for investigation.
After speaking with the Lorekeeper, you’ll be directed to the local villagers, who are enveloped in swirling letters and seem to be fading away. Fortunately, you can help them by completing simple tasks that will remind them of their stories, alleviating their illness. However, Maleficent’s situation isn’t as straightforward; you’ll need to piece together her narrative to discover what has happened to her.
Upon completing her story, you’ll learn that she’s been sent to the Unwritten Realms, accessible through a portal. To activate it, you must interact with three tall candle stands in the Lorekeeper’s room. Each will shift a piece of Maleficent’s portrait on the floor, and your goal is to position them correctly—with her horns at the top—completing the image. Once you succeed, a storybook portal will open.
Journey To The Unwritten Realm
Assist Maleficent in The Unwritten Realms
Upon entering the Unwritten Realms, ascend the stairs to find Maleficent, visibly frustrated about the long wait. After chatting with the Magical Quill, you’ll discover the delay lasts for eons. It’s up to you to speed things up: assist Maleficent in recovering the torn pieces of her ticket scattered throughout the waiting area.
One piece can be found between a large set of couches, another in a smaller seating area, and the last behind the Magical Quill’s desk. Collecting all three will give you the complete ticket number: 9375. Go back to Maleficent near the ticket board to rearrange the numbers on the board to match your ticket, then deliver it to the Magical Quill.
Once you hand over the ticket, you’ll learn that Maleficent is slated for erasure, but the reason is classified. Since the process is already underway, you must proceed to the Review and Processing floor to speak with the quills there. They’ll inform you that you must recover Maleficent’s story to assist her. Specifically, you need to gather three of her key moments to bring her back.
Retrieve Maleficent’s Key Moments
Help Maleficent Retrieve Three Key Moments To Save Her
To aid Maleficent, you’ll need to complete three distinct trials and recover the memory from each. Each trial begins through a portal, and you’ll need to report back to Maleficent after each one. The trials include Maleficent’s Gift, The Spinning Wheel, and Maleficent’s Demise.

Maleficent’s Gift |
After giving the ticket, head up the stairs to chat with another quill. They’ll direct you to a lever that opens the portal. |
The first task is to find three dragon-head statues on the wall and rotate them upright. Then, proceed through the opened door to find a small fountain. Fish out the missing tile and return it to the floor puzzle. Now, solve the floor puzzle using clues: from top left to bottom right: Skull, Griffin, Skull; Griffin, Skull, Griffin; Skull, Griffin, Griffin. |
|
The Spinning Wheel |
To get to this portal, head to the second review floor after delivering Maleficent’s first memory and talk to the Quill. They’ll quiz you on the Unwritten Realms. The answers are 44 Seats, 4 Quills, and 2nd Floor. With the wheel, use the levers to create a path for the portal. |
Once inside the portal, use your Watering Can on the flapper behind the Spinning Wheel statue. Then, go behind Aurora’s statue to activate three pedestals to reveal the missing panel for the watering contraption. Once obtained, return to place it, water it, and watch as beams point to a now-open doorway containing the second anchor moment. |
|
Maleficent’s Demise |
To reach the last Anchor Moment, climb the stairs near the quizzing Quill and spin the wheel to talk to another Magical Quill. Unfortunately, they’ll inform you that this moment has already been discarded, so you’ll need to fish it out of the tornado next to them. |
This trial features three puzzles that must be arranged to allow a Knight through. Puzzle 1: Move both blocking racks to the right side. Puzzle 2: Move the farthest horizontal rack left, raise the vertical rack, then push the closest horizontal rack right. Puzzle 3: Move all vertical racks down to the Knight, then shift the two horizontal racks to the right. This clears the path to collect the Anchor Moment. |
After completing the final trial, a Magical Quill will attempt to dissuade you, delivering a message from the Lorekeeper, urging you to erase Maleficent. However, you must return the final moment to her. Once you gather all three Anchors and deliver them back to Maleficent, she will regain her true form.
Note: Maleficent won’t come with a house, as she resides in her castle in the Beanstalk Marshes of The Storybook Vale, similar to Jafar’s palace in A Rift In Time.
Once you’ve done that, return to The Storybook Vale to confront the Lorekeeper about their falsehoods. You’ll learn that Maleficent isn’t the true issue; you are. Following this slightly awkward exchange, you’ll officially unlock Maleficent as a villager and earn her friendship rewards. But there’s still one more villager left to find in the thrilling conclusion of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Storybook Vale.
