Surprising everyone with its sudden launch, Warriors: Abyss delivers a fresh roguelike experience, reminiscent of the popular Hades series and the beloved Vampire Survivors. Its blend of mechanics creates a gameplay experience we didn’t know we needed, and it does not disappoint.
This game features robust systems and gameplay mechanics, providing various ways to approach each run. One standout feature is its impressive roster of 100 characters, catering to diverse playstyles. While players won’t run out of Heroes to choose from, they will encounter their fair share of challenges—this is, after all, a roguelike game.
What Are Karma Embers?
Before diving into how to gather Karma Embers, let’s first explain their purpose in Warriors: Abyss. Understanding their significance will help you navigate future runs more smoothly, letting you breeze through early levels and face tougher bosses with confidence.
As you collect Karma Embers, you can spend them in the Hall of Bonded Souls, accessible from the Main Menu before starting a new run. Within this hall, you can unlock new Heroes, Formations, Enma’s Blessings, and Unique Weapons. These upgrades are crucial for improving your performance in future attempts.
While acquiring new Formations and Enma’s Blessings is useful, nothing beats recruiting a new Hero. Not only do you get to play as them or enlist them as an ally, but they also provide a permanent stat boost to every character once you’ve formed a bond with them. Depending on the Hero, you could gain a permanent increase in Attack, Defense, or Max Health, making Karma Embers incredibly valuable!
Note:
While we recommend prioritizing Heroes, don’t overlook the value of Formations and Enma’s Blessings, as they can be pivotal for certain builds. Always consider how a Formation will complement your chosen Heroes; one that doesn’t align with your playstyle may prove less beneficial.
How To Obtain Karma Embers
Now that you know what Karma Embers are used for, let’s explore how to acquire them. You’ll need a substantial amount to fill out your Hall of Bonded Souls, especially if your goal is to collect all Unique Weapons in the game.
Initially, it can feel like a slow grind to gather Embers, but as you advance deeper into the game, opportunities for earning them will present themselves more frequently. There are five primary methods to collect considerable amounts of Karma Embers during your gameplay.
Bonus State Heroes
The first way to increase your Karma Ember collection is by utilizing Bonus State Heroes. When selecting your Hero, look for a small blue icon on the upper right of certain portraits. These Heroes are currently designated as Bonus State Heroes.
Playing as these Heroes will earn you additional Karma Embers, with the amount varying based on several factors. A successful run with these characters can yield a significant reward. This mechanic encourages players to try out different Heroes they might not usually select, revealing hidden gems among your options.
Karma Ember Portals
Next on the list are Karma Ember Portals, which may appear after completing a Phase. A small Karma Embers icon next to the Portal will indicate that it will yield a substantial amount of Karma Embers.
By entering the Karma Embers Portal, you will progress to the next Phase, which will then spawn a Chest at the exit containing 500 Embers or more. This makes it one of the most efficient methods for accumulating Karma Embers, though you can’t guarantee that a Portal will appear every run.
Reaching New Phases
Another way to earn Karma Embers is simply by progressing through the game. Each time you reach a new Phase, you will receive a considerable amount of Karma Embers, which adds up as you delve deeper into the game.
There are 33 Phases total, so advancing through a run will naturally net you more Embers. Initially, your progression may be slow, but as you become more familiar with the game’s mechanics and unlock additional Heroes, you will begin accumulating Embers much more quickly.
Completing Missions
Similar to the Karma Ember Portals, Mission Portals provide a great opportunity to earn extra Karma Embers. Completing missions offers bonuses beyond what you gather from clearing a Phase. When you encounter a Portal with a Treasure Chest icon, choose it to take on the next Phase.
In this Phase, Enma will assign you a mission—a quick challenge to defeat a set number of enemies within a time limit. Completing this will grant you extra Karma Embers and may reward you further from a Treasure Chest.
Defeating Bosses
Finally, defeating bosses is a major source of Karma Embers in Warriors: Abyss. Although tackling bosses can be tough, they offer substantial Ember rewards upon defeat. The tougher the boss, the more Embers you gain.
As you unlock more Heroes and improve your skills, you’ll be able to defeat earlier bosses more easily, resulting in a consistent flow of Embers. Once you reach a specific skill level, consider using a Bonus State Hero; reaching the third boss can yield large rewards, even if you don’t defeat them. Beating the boss will significantly boost your Ember count, especially if you clear the game with a Bonus State Hero, putting you in an excellent position for future runs.
