Spider’s Lyre: A Key Quest Item in Baldur’s Gate 3
The Spider’s Lyre is a vital quest item in Baldur’s Gate 3. As a musical instrument, it serves the critical function of summoning Kar’niss during Act 2, who will assist you in navigating the dangerous Shadow-Cursed Lands safely.
Acquiring the Spider’s Lyre from Minthara
One of the quickest ways to obtain the Spider’s Lyre is from Minthara, a high-ranking Drow leader. You have two options: defeat her in battle or align with her to help destroy the Druid Grove.
Once you reach the Druid Grove, your objective will be to infiltrate the Goblin Camp to rescue Halsin, with Minthara being one of the goblin leaders you need to confront.
Minthara can be found in a hidden chamber within the Shattered Sanctum part of the Goblin Camp, adjacent to the Worg Pen. When you first encounter her, you can choose to engage her in combat, but be warned—she is a formidable foe.
After you defeat Minthara, be sure to loot her corpse for the Spider’s Lyre.
Alternatively, if you’d prefer not to take on the entire Goblin Camp alone, you can strike a deal with Minthara. Agree to support her invasion of the Druid Grove, then wait for her and her forces to arrive. When the moment is right, betray her by sounding the horn, rallying the Druid Grove’s inhabitants to assist you in defeating her.
For players inclined towards a darker narrative, consider collaborating with Minthara. Help her wipe out the Druids and Tieflings. After resting, engage in conversation with her, and she will reward you with the Spider’s Lyre.
Acquiring the Spider’s Lyre from Nere
True Soul Nere is another option for obtaining the Spider’s Lyre. He’s a formidable boss found at Grymforge in the Underdark and possesses the instrument as well. Similar to Minthara, you can either defeat him in battle or team up to eliminate the Deep Gnomes.
Nere is no easy opponent; he summons a group of allies to assist him. It’s advisable to clear out his minions before directly confronting him. If you manage to defeat him, he will yield the Lyre. If you’re playing a character with darker intentions, you may also choose to side with Nere to eliminate the Deep Gnomes, who will then reward you with the Lyre after your victory.
Utilizing the Spider’s Lyre in BG3
The Spider’s Lyre serves a specific purpose in Baldur’s Gate 3: summoning Kar’niss, who will lead you safely through the perilous Shadow-Cursed Lands. After completing the first act, either by traveling through the Underdark or over the Mountain Pass, you’ll reach the Shadow-Cursed Lands.
Traversing these lands requires the Moonlantern, which you can acquire at Kansif’s camp located at coordinates (X: 95, Y: -50). He will ask you to play the Spider’s Lyre, regardless of your proficiency with it.
Once you play the Lyre, Kar’niss, the Drider, will make his appearance. Even if your performance isn’t perfect, he will only tease you for it.
Important Notes
The Spider’s Lyre cannot be used as a regular item; you can only employ it during your conversation with Kansif.
Kar’niss will then guide you through to the Moonrise Towers, but you also have the option to confront him in battle to claim his Moonlantern for your own. If your goal is to absolve the curse affecting your ability to roam freely, you will need to awaken Art Cullagh and save Thaniel with help from Halsin.
