These puzzles combine both colorful and traditional nonogram styles, making it a heartfelt tribute to the Rune Factory games, particularly editions 3, 4, and 5. As you work through the puzzles, you’ll encounter pixel art representing beloved characters, items, and creatures from the franchise, ranging from well-known to obscure.

Advancing in the game typically involves solving adjacent puzzles to unlock new ones. However, some puzzles come with additional requirements that you must meet before you can dive into the tricky challenges they present. Fortunately, these tasks are relatively straightforward, so you don’t need to fret!

Unlocking New Puzzles

The primary method to unlock new puzzles in Piczle Cross is by solving adjacent puzzles. As you navigate your way through the sprawling puzzle landscape around your farm, you’ll move from left to right. At times, you’ll be required to complete larger collages that can only be accessed in Challenge Mode, unless you choose Puzzle Mode. Tackling these boss-level puzzles is essential for making progress.

If you opt for Puzzle Mode, you can enjoy an easy-going experience—every puzzle is available from the beginning, so there’s no need to worry about unlocking anything. This is a great choice for those who prefer a gentler introduction to the game.

However, not every puzzle can be unlocked just by finishing adjacent ones:

Puzzles marked with a sword icon feature monsters. To tackle these, you must first complete a puzzle that grants you a weapon. You’ll find many of these riddles early in the game. But don’t worry, you don’t need to equip a weapon to take them on!
Puzzles displayed with a fishing rod icon involve fish. To access these, you need to complete the Fishing Pole puzzle, located immediately to the right of the first boss, the Nine-Tailed Fox.
The speech bubble icon indicates a panel with an NPC puzzle. Completing these will add various NPCs from Rune Factory to your collection. To unlock these puzzles, you’ll need to finish the Greeting Spell puzzle, which is positioned directly to the right of the Fishing Pole puzzle.
