Why do players embark on monster hunts in Monster Hunter Wilds? While there are storyline reasons, many hunt purely for the thrill of the chase. However, a significant motivation often revolves around the need for specific materials to craft the right gear. Most weapons and armor are designed with themes inspired by particular monsters, though there are some less obvious ones to discover.

Much like other games in the Monster Hunter series, Wilds features unique armor sets that can only be obtained through special methods, like collecting rare materials or completing specific quests. These sets aren’t typically advertised, but we’re here to guide you in uncovering each one.

What Are Secret Armor Sets?

Secret armor sets are exactly what their name suggests. The majority of the game’s weapons and armor are crafted from materials gathered from the monsters you defeat. In contrast, the hidden sets rely on rare materials that you may not even be aware of, which is part of what makes them secretive.

Once you acquire even a single piece of the unique materials needed to create these sets, they’ll be listed at Gemma’s smithy for crafting. Keep track of where you found these items; just one won’t suffice to craft the entire set. In addition to the hidden materials, you’ll also need extra, more common resources to complete the sets.

Some smaller items, like the Kranodath Mail and Comaqchi Accessory, can be unlocked simply by defeating smaller monsters, so they aren’t included in the list below.

Each Secret Armor Set and How to Unlock Them

In total, there are 11 secret armor sets in the game, each unlocked by discovering a specific rare item. This means a bit of luck is involved in even finding these exclusive sets. Let’s take a look at what they are.

The regional outfits, along with the Death Stench set, have an additional Palico variant available.

Kunafa

  • Unlock Material: Dalthydon Wool
  • Skills: Palico Rally Level 4, Wide-Range Level 4, Speed Eating Level 2, Free Meal Level 2.

This outfit is inspired by the clothing of Kunafa’s inhabitants and focuses on sharing meals and working alongside your Palico. To unlock it, you need to find some Dalthydon Wool, which you can obtain through trades in Kunafa.

Azuz

  • Unlock Material: Azuz Tanned Leather
  • Skills: Heroics Level 3, Geologist Level 3, Maximum Might Level 2.

Inspired by the people of Azuz, this outfit emphasizes strength and resourcefulness in gathering ore. You can acquire Azuz Tanned Leather by trading with any vendors in Azuz.

Suja

  • Unlock Material: Suja Textiles
  • Skills: Divine Blessing Level 3.

This set features a single waist armor piece that provides a high chance of reducing incoming damage when the full Divine Blessing skill is active. You can create it using Suja Textiles, which are available by trading in Suja.

Sild

  • Unlock Material: Sild Cotton
  • Skills: Wide-Range Level 4, Botanist Level 3.

The Sild set is inspired by the local attire and promotes plant gathering while enhancing ranged weapon performance. It encourages a strategy of keeping your distance, similar to the Keepers. You can acquire Sild Cotton through trades in Sild.

Death Stench

  • Unlock Material: Sinister Cloth
  • Skills: Resentment Level 5, Ambush Level 3, Stun Resistance Level 2, Intimidator Level 2.

Making a return from previous games, the Death Stench set allows you to dress as the embodiment of death itself. It comes with numerous useful abilities and is crafted from Sinister Cloth. You can obtain this through Material Retrieval in Kunafa or by trading with the Kunafa villagers or Wudwuds.

Butterfly

  • Unlock Material: Great Hornfly
  • Skills: Constitution Level 5, Evade Window Level 5, Evade Extender Level 3, Recovery Up Level 2, Recovery Speed Level 2.

King Beetle

  • Unlock Material: Great Hornfly
  • Skills: Heroics Level 5, Foray Level 3, Flayer Level 2, Poison Resistance Level 2, Paralysis Resistance Level 2, Sleep Resistance Level 1.

  • Unlock Material: Commission Ticket
  • Skills: Agitator Level 5, Divine Blessing Level 2, Quick Sheathe Level 2, Maximum Might Level 1, Tool Specialist Level 1, Earplugs Level 1.

The Commission set, which draws inspiration from Monster Hunter World, offers a diverse array of skills for enhanced utility in combat. It is also one of the hardest sets to unlock, requiring a Commission Ticket. This can occasionally appear in the inventory of the Support Ship when it visits the Windward Plains. You may need to wait for it to arrive or choose either Misc or Equipment materials for a better chance of finding it.
