Among the many new Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Dimension DLC, Mega Magearna might be the hardest to find. This Mythical Pokémon is already pretty rare, as you need to complete a specific side quest that involves a lot of grinding. But if you’re willing to put in the effort, this Legendary Fairy/Steel-type Pokémon rewards you with an easier way to get its Mega form compared to others in the DLC.

Getting Mega Magearna isn’t as simple as just capturing it. Its quest only appears after you finish other content first. You must beat the main Legends: Z-A story, complete the DLC’s main story, and finish the postgame. Once you’ve defeated Rayquaza in the postgame, new missions related to Magearna will unlock.

Where to Find Magearnite for Mega Magearna

Collect Enough Rare Materials for the Mega Stone

To start looking for Magearna’s Mega Stone, talk to the NPC named Vinnie after the postgame. Vinnie will ask you to catch a Mimikyu for his daughter. Mimikyu is a Fairy/Ghost-type and can be found through one of the Hyperspace Lumiose rifts in the city. Giving Vinnie any Mimikyu will open another mission with a character named Solu.

Both Vinnie and Solu are located at the Quasartico Inc. building in Lumiose City — the same place where Magearna will show up during a mission tied to this Legendary Pokémon and its Mega Stone.

Solu will challenge you to battle two Dedenne guards outside the building, but defeating them will cause them to become Hangry, making their form less reliable. After this, Vinnie will appear with Jett, the CEO of Quasartico Inc. Vinnie and Jett will share information about Magearna in a new mission and even show you the Pokémon inside the company.

Magearna was recovered during Quasartico Inc.’s redevelopment work, but it’s dormant inside a Poké Ball. To bring it out of this state, Quasartico wants to craft a Mega Stone that will allow Magearna to Mega Evolve.

However, crafting the Magearnite Mega Stone isn’t easy. It costs 999 Mega Shards, which you’ll need to farm by exploring Hyperspace rifts and the zones they lead to. Once you gather enough Mega Shards, return to Vinnie and Jett, give them the shards, and they will reward you with the Magearnite Mega Stone.

How to Get Magearna

Complete the Right Quest to Receive the Legendary Pokémon

Unlike Mega Darkrai or other Legendary Pokémon in this DLC, you don’t have to battle Magearna to get it once you have its Mega Stone. Just completing the quest to craft Magearna’s Mega Stone will reward you with the Pokémon itself, with no further battles needed. Vinnie and Jett will give you Magearna as a gift after everything you’ve done for the city.

Note: Magearna given as a gift isn’t shiny, but there’s a small chance to find shiny Pokémon while farming Mega Shards in the Hyperspace rifts.

Once you have Magearna, you can use its Mega Stone anytime during battles to unlock its Mega form. Mega Magearna is a powerful fighter, with an impressive Special Attack of 170, making it great for aggressive battles. Its Steel typing also gives it good resistances, and with strong defensive stats, it’s a valuable addition to your team.

Earning Magearna through this side mission makes it worth the grind, even if collecting enough Mega Shards takes some time. Anyone who unlocks Mega Magearna in the Mega Dimension DLC will have a tough and reliable teammate for important battles.
