After the previous event in Monster Hunter World that featured Final Fantasy 14, Capcom’s newest game, Monster Hunter Wilds, has finally teamed up with the famous MMO, offering many rewards to collect. Since Wilds doesn’t show you what gear you can craft until you gather all the materials, it’s helpful to know what monsters you’ll be hunting beforehand.
Following the initial announcement at Gamescom, the Final Fantasy 14 crossover adds three new permanent quests. These quests involve hunting a Nerscylla, Omega Planetes, and a tougher version called Savage Omega Planetes to earn related rewards. To unlock these quests, you must be at Hunter Rank 41 or higher and have completed the main story mission, “What Lies Ahead.”
How to Unlock Final Fantasy 14’s Special Gear
Here are the steps to start the crossover event:
- Visit the Iceshard Cliffs as requested by your hunting partner.
- Talk to Rove at his camp in Area 20, which will lead you to hunt the strange Nerscylla.
- After defeating the monster, talk to nearby NPCs to receive your first pieces of event gear.
A helpful item during the challenging Omega Planetes hunts is the Soul of the Pictomancer. It allows you to cast spells from your item bar to attack monsters along your path. The spells attack in three stages with cooldowns, causing stun damage, slashing cyclone attacks, and a laser beam, which can all hurt Omega Planetes.
During this event, you’ll also encounter Cactuars and Morbols in the open world, especially in Windward Plains. When activated, a Cactuar deals a lot of damage to nearby monsters, while Morbols can be lured to them and release poisonous fumes affecting everyone close by.
Rewards for Defeating Omega Planetes
Omega Planetes is the first fully autonomous monster in the series, and it’s even tougher than the last collaboration boss, requiring teamwork and strategy to beat. Once you manage to survive the fight at least once, you’ll unlock these rewards:
- Bale Armor α (Armor Set)
- Shadowbringer (Greatsword)
- Morbol Seedling α (Palico Armor & Weapon Set)
- My Little Chocobo Outfit (Seikret Skin)
- FFXIV Senor Sabotender (Gesture)
- FF14-themed Hunter Profile Decorations
- Floating OMG Pendant
You’ll need to craft the armor and weapons before you can fully use them. The Bale Armor has a special hidden effect: activating “Soul of the Dark Knight” and using the skill “The Blackest Night” grants a ranged attack shield, sacrificing some health.
The Shadowbringer Greatsword also has a hidden ability. Charging a slash to level 2 or 3 will consume some of your health to deal extra damage for 30 seconds, with a 15-second cooldown.
Rewards for Beating Savage Omega Planetes
After defeating the standard version, you can take on the tougher Savage Omega Planetes quest, which has its own unique prizes. However, two of the three Final Fantasy 14 weapons are only available in this hard mode, so it takes more effort to unlock them.
Rewards include:
- Omega’s Attire α (Armor Set)
- Omega’s Sword (Sword & Shield)
- Omega’s Rod (Insect Glaive)
- OMG Kinsect (Insect Glaive feature)
- Manderville Mambo (Gesture)
Note: The armor sets in this crossover are gender-locked due to their design, so you can’t pick a version that doesn’t match your character’s gender.
This collaboration offers a lot of new content, challenges, and exclusive gear for players willing to complete tough hunts and team up properly.
