Xbox Quick Resume allows you to temporarily pause multiple games at once, keeping them active in the background even when the console is turned off. When you switch back to a game or power on the system, you can immediately resume where you left off, without having to reload the game. This feature is especially handy if you need to stop playing suddenly; you can pick up right where you stopped, whether your Xbox Series X is awake, asleep, or completely off.
By default, Quick Resume is enabled automatically, so there’s nothing you need to set up. It activates whenever you start a new game or turn off your console, saving your progress as a suspended state. If you want to see which games are in suspension, press the Xbox button, go to My games & apps, and look under the Quick Resume section. To remove a game from Quick Resume and fully close it, select the game, press the Menu button, and choose Quit. The next time you open that game, it will load from scratch.
Does Xbox Quick Resume work with online games?
Because online games rely on active internet connections, their behavior with Quick Resume can differ. Some titles let you jump back into the game at the exact point you left off, but this isn’t common. Most online games will send you back to the main menu or require you to reconnect because the active online session isn’t maintained during suspension. How well this works depends on each game’s online system. Some games may reconnect you to ongoing matches if you’re disconnected, but generally, online gameplay isn’t seamless with Quick Resume.
