Frostbite is not just a figure of speech in Peak; it poses a genuine danger if you remain stationary. As you and your fellow explorers aim to escape the island by tackling its formidable mountain, you’ll encounter more than just shaky ledges and unreliable grips. The mountain itself has a hidden timer, manifested as a thick, creeping fog that induces a chilling effect known as Frost, which drains your stamina.
If you don’t climb quickly and strategically, that mountain fog will close in on you. To survive the ascent, it’s crucial to understand how Frost works and how to evade it. Here’s what you need to know before the cold starts to take its toll.
What Is Frost?
In Peak, environmental challenges significantly influence your climbing journey, and one of the most vital concepts to grasp is Frost. Frost is a condition that drains your stamina.
Frost In The Fog
Frost kicks in once you enter the fog, a persistent weather pattern designed to push you to climb efficiently. The fog serves as an unwelcome time constraint, gradually encroaching on your position as you ascend. If it manages to catch up with you, Frost will start affecting you, steadily sucking away your stamina.
If you linger in the fog too long without escaping, you’ll find your stamina completely depleted, which could be fatal.
Frost In The Alpine
You will also encounter the Frost effect at the Alpine section during Blizzards—short and unexpected weather changes that last less than a minute.
How To Combat Frost
Your approach to mitigating Frost varies depending on where it’s encountered.
Stopping Frost From The Fog
To fend off Frost, the most effective tactic is to keep a brisk pace and stay ahead of the fog’s approach. Staying efficient in your movements and minimizing errors are essential for your safety.
If you prefer a less stressful or more exploratory gameplay experience, Peak offers an option to eliminate the fog altogether. By visiting the Gate Kiosk at the airport, you can disable the fog by selecting the Tenderfoot option. This will halt the fog’s rise, thereby negating the Frost effect and allowing you to climb without the pressure of time.
Stopping Frost At The Alpine
When you reach the Alpine, you might also experience Frost during Blizzards. To deal with this:
- Utilize a Faerie Light, which you can obtain from Statues, or grab a Heat Pack found as loot.
- Alternatively, take cover behind objects to avoid the onslaught of Blizzards.
Understanding and responding effectively to these conditions is key to making it through the challenges that the mountain throws your way.
