Pokémon Legends: Z-A still uses the stone evolution system from the very first Pokémon games. Fortunately, most of the ways Pokémon evolve using stones have stayed the same over the years, so it’s easy to remember how to do it.
However, since Legends: Z-A takes place in a completely new world, you’ll have to look for these stones and other items all over again. Here’s where to find them.
Where to Find Every Evolution Stone in Legends: Z-A
Most Stones Are Available at the Stone Emporium
Once you finish the tutorial and learn the game mechanics, you’ll unlock the world map of Lumiose City, the main setting of the game. After that, look for the Stone Emporium, located just west of Hotel Z, where you start your journey.
Most of the stones can be bought here for 3,000 in-game currency. You’ll find all the classic stones such as fire, water, leaf, and thunder stones.
Note: Some stones are only available after finishing certain story missions. If they’re not there, come back later. To use the stones, interact with your Pokémon through the main menu, select a party member, and choose to evolve.

Tip: Buy one of each stone while you can. You can evolve Pokémon on the spot, even in the middle of battles.
Where to Find a Dusk Stone in Lumiose City
If you’re having trouble buying a Dusk Stone, you can find one nearby on your own. Head to Restaurant Le Nah on the eastern edge of Lumiose City. Walk around the stairwell near the roses, turn the corner, and climb the ladder. Right in front of you, there’s a Poké Ball item that you can pick up—giving you a free Dusk Stone.
Finding Other Evolution Items in Legends: Z-A
Evolutionary items are also back in the game. You’ll need to find them, give them to Pokémon as held items, and trade to complete evolutions. Here are some you might encounter:
| Item | Location | Pokémon Impacted |
|---|---|---|
| Metal Coat | To Be Determined | Steelix, Scizor (trade) |
| Sachet | To Be Determined | Aromatisse (trade) |
| Whipped Dream | To Be Determined | Slurpuff (trade) |
| Galarica Wreath | To Be Determined | Galarian Slowking (trade) |
| Galarica Cuff | To Be Determined | Galarian Slowbro (trade) |
| King’s Rock | To Be Determined | Slowking (trade) |
Note: Locations for these items haven’t been fully revealed yet, but they return in this game. Be sure to explore and complete side quests, as many items are found throughout Lumiose City.
Summary
All evolution items are mostly found in one large area—Lumiose City—making it easy to explore, visit shops, and skip side quests for bonus items. Keep searching, and after completing all the quests, you’ll gather everything you need to evolve your Pokémon.
Good luck on your journey!
