In the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, mastering deck building is crucial for excelling in competitive matches. Of the many deck types available, a Water-type deck can be a formidable option that outshines the competition, boasting some of the most powerful ex cards in the game. While Lightning-type cards like Pikachu ex and Psychic-types like Mewtwo ex are quite popular, their prominence sometimes overshadows the true potential of Water-type decks.

The following Water-type deck is ideal for players who favor fast-paced strategies that blend aggression with speed. Since the game’s launch, Water-type decks have remained a fan favorite, but fully realizing their capabilities demands thoughtful deck construction and strategic planning. By optimizing card combinations and leveraging the specific strengths of Water-type Pokémon cards, you can swiftly take down your opponents.

Top Cards for a Water-type Deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket

The Core of This Deck: Three Key Cards

This Water-type deck strongly depends on the powerful partnership between Articuno ex and Starmie ex, which provide high-impact, low-cost attacks. Articuno ex features effective moves like Ice Wing, dealing 40 damage, and Blizzard, a hard-hitting attack that inflicts 80 damage, swinging the battle’s momentum in your favor. Starmie ex adds to the deck’s aggression with Hydro Splash, inflicting a solid 90 damage for just two Water Energy. Together, these Pokémon form a robust core for the deck, delivering consistent, heavy strikes.

Maintain a streamlined deck with fewer Pokémon and more Trainer cards. This strategy enhances your odds of quickly drawing Articuno ex, Starmie ex, and essential Supporter cards.

An essential element of this deck is the Supporter card Misty, which accelerates energy attachments to your Pokémon. Misty’s ability allows you to pick one of your Water-type Pokémon and flip a coin until you land on tails. For each heads, you can take a Water Energy from your Energy Zone and attach it to that Pokémon. This is incredibly beneficial, enabling you to start inflicting damage right from the first turn, effectively overcoming the disadvantage of going first in battles and seizing control from the start.

What is your favorite Pokémon TCG Pocket deck?

Pokémon TCG Pocket has captivated much of my free time since its release. I’ve been quite fortunate with my Wonder Picks, which has helped me quickly assemble some of the best decks as a free-to-play player. Personally, I’m a big fan of the Pikachu Ex deck, which has led to numerous victories for me during events. Besides that, I also enjoy the Moltres Ex/Charizard Ex and Articuno Ex decks.

However, Misty’s effectiveness does rely on luck, as you may flip tails first and not attach any energy. Despite this potential drawback, using Misty as soon as possible can be a worthwhile risk. With a bit of luck on your side, this deck can overwhelm opponents, even when facing Pikachu ex in Pokémon TCG Pocket.

Extra Supporter and Item Cards Extend This Deck’s Longevity

Additional Supporter cards contribute significantly to your strategies by disrupting opponents and boosting your gameplay. For instance, Sabrina forces the opponent to swap their Active Pokémon with one from their bench, which can strategically safeguard vulnerable cards like Staryu from being knocked out — particularly when Misty hasn’t been played or has failed to secure heads. Furthermore, Professor’s Research aids in drawing the necessary cards from the deck. With fewer Pokémon in this deck, drawing Articuno ex and Starmie ex in Pokémon TCG Pocket should be easy.
