Marvel Rivals Season 4.5 will introduce a new game mode that fans have been waiting for—a long-awaited Player vs. Environment (PvE) mode where multiple players team up to fight against dangerous zombies. This mode offers a fresh twist to the usual hero shooting gameplay, with changes to several game mechanics and the abilities of the limited characters available. Players will face powerful bosses and large, chaotic battles as they fend off waves of zombies. There are many new details to explore in this mode.
When the seasonal roadmap was first announced, the zombie mode was kept a secret. However, players who looked carefully noticed several Halloween-themed skins being released around the same time. Unlike the appearance of Daredevil during Season 4.5, this zombie mode is likely a limited-time event. It’s expected to be available for a while but will probably disappear when Season 5 begins.
The Zombie Mode in Marvel Rivals is set to launch on October 24, 2025. This gives players a week before Halloween to enjoy the horror-themed PvE content. Along with the mode, new character skins—some inspired by the zombie mode itself—will become available in the store.
This new mode takes place on the Midtown map, known as the Empire of Eternal Night. It can be selected from the game modes menu under “Play,” alongside options like Quick Play and Competitive. This allows players to join zombie battles with shorter wait times, and it’s available for teams of 1-4 players.
In Zombie Mode, traditional character buffs and nerfs don’t matter, as it’s a cooperative PvE experience designed for fun and teamwork. Players can choose from five heroes: Thor, The Punisher, Jeff the Land Shark, Blade, and Magik. Each character’s health is significantly increased compared to their usual PvP stats, and full teams of four can be formed or players can go solo against the zombie hordes.
Every hero experiences major changes to their abilities tailored specifically for this mode, offering new ways to play each character. For example, The Punisher can deploy a turret that operates independently, allowing for strategic approaches to combat. Other heroes will also have enhanced or altered abilities; for instance, Thor can stay in his Awakened State longer and move more freely, while Blade gains properties similar to Moon Knight in his attacks.
Heroes have deep customization options through ability trees called “Khonshu’s Blessings,” which can be unlocked gradually. Before a match, players can swap abilities and traits to create a custom “loadout” optimized for fighting bosses or hordes. The mode also features leaderboards, encouraging players to create the most effective builds to defeat zombies faster than others. Notably, players will face two powerful bosses—zombified versions of Namor and Scarlet Witch—making build strategies crucial for success.
To play Zombie Mode, select it from the extra menu in the game. You can then view your level within the mode, your available heroes, and other key info. You can allocate points to purchase and upgrade traits, with more options becoming available after each match. There are seven difficulty levels to choose from, allowing players to select challenges that match their skill level. Beating higher difficulties rewards better loot but can be tough without a strong character setup.
One thing to note is that, unlike other modes, Zombies Mode doesn’t involve team-up abilities between characters, so players need to experiment to find the best strategies with their chosen heroes. Despite their high health pools, coordination is essential—bosses can one-shot you, and zombie hordes can overwhelm if you’re not careful.
As of now, the mode’s rewards seem to focus on increasing hero strength and skill progression rather than specific loot for completing matches. Overall, Zombies Mode provides a fun and less stressful alternative to Player vs. Player combat, offering a fresh way to enjoy Marvel Rivals and complete missions together.
