Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers a variety of weapons for its two main characters. However, Naoe benefits from some additional Shinobi gear that can be incredibly deadly when used effectively. While she is certainly capable of engaging in direct combat, her skills are better aligned with stealth, thanks to her Assassin, Shinobi, Tanto, and Tools skill trees.
The first tool available to Naoe is the Kunai, a formidable throwing blade that can significantly simplify the process of capturing camps and castles when combined with the right abilities and gear. It’s wise to focus on unlocking these abilities early; doing so allows you to stay hidden while taking out your targets.

Learn These for Nearly Endless One-Shot Kunai
To effectively develop Naoe’s Kunai skills, you need to focus most of your mastery points on the Tools tree. While you shouldn’t overlook other skills—especially in the Assassin and Katana trees—they should take a backseat to Tools when starting out.
As soon as possible, upgrade the Kunai Assassination Damage on the mastery tree. This enhancement enables assassinations on a variety of enemies throughout Assassin’s Creed Shadows, allowing you to stay hidden while securing kills. Combine that with the Everlast ability and upgrade the Large Tool Bag for more Kunai, ensuring you always have one at your disposal. Here are the Tool abilities you should prioritize upgrading:

Optimal Gear for a Kunai Naoe Build
Light Armor Options to Enhance Your Tools
The best light armor choice for a Kunai build is the Tools Master Gear, which I obtained from a legendary chest in Katano Castle by defeating two Samurai Daisho. Since then, I haven’t felt the need to change it. Not only does this gear visually represent Naoe with kunai, shuriken, and bombs, but its special engraving throws a kunai at the nearest enemy after executing an assassination, allowing for potential double assassinations on distant foes.
Feel free to choose any headgear to complement the Tools Master Gear, but aim to acquire the Tatsu’s Triumph legendary trinket. This trinket enhances your tool damage based on the mastery points allocated within the Tools tree, significantly boosting your Kunai damage as you progress. It’s located in a hidden chest at Ogura Peak, in the Yamahsiro Region.
Since smoke bombs and shinobi bells are not as effective in Shadows, consider investing mastery points in them only if you genuinely wish to use them.
Early in my journey with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, I quickly grew fond of the Kunai. Gaining access to it right after the prologue was a game-changer. Once I found the right gear and dedicated some mastery points into the tools tree, it transformed into one of Naoe’s most powerful weapons, simplifying the process of clearing large enemy territories—and making it quite enjoyable.
