Pokémon GO is currently featuring the Ultra League and Spring Cup: Great League Edition in its GO Battle League this week, making it crucial to choose the best teams to earn top rewards. Each week, Pokémon GO rotates through a variety of cups for trainers to compete in Player versus Player (PvP) matches. These battles present an excellent opportunity to earn impressive rewards, but victory is required to claim them.

The Ultra League has made its anticipated return to competitive play, allowing players to choose any Pokémon as long as its Combat Power (CP) is below 2,500. Meanwhile, the Spring Cup: Great League follows the usual Great League guidelines by limiting Pokémon to 1,500 CP, but adds an additional layer of strategy by permitting only Water, Grass, or Fairy-type Pokémon. These specific rules make team selection more challenging, highlighting the importance of choosing the right lineup.

Dominating Choices: Grumpig, Lapras, and Dusknoir

The competitive landscape for the Ultra League has shifted recently, with many new Pokémon becoming viable options. A powerful team currently consists of Grumpig, Lapras, and Dusknoir. Grumpig stands out as an excellent choice thanks to buffs that have enhanced its attacks, allowing it to use moves like Psywave and Dynamic Punch effectively against other popular picks.

Lapras complements Grumpig well with its Water and Ice typing, currently ranked as the third-best option on PvPoke.com. Its bulkiness means it can absorb significant damage while boasting a viable move set. Dusknoir rounds out this trio as the strongest pure Ghost-type Pokémon, providing resistance against those Pokémon that pose threats to Grumpig and Lapras.

While the Spring Cup may initially seem limiting, the use of dual-type Pokémon enhances your choices. If a Pokémon has either Water, Grass, or Fairy as one of its two types, it qualifies for this cup. This allows for an optimal team featuring Galarian Weezing, Ferrothorn, and Lapras, which are recognized as top contenders according to PvPoke.com. Galarian Weezing, being a dual Poison and Fairy-type, faces minimal vulnerability to the Pokémon allowed in this cup and excels against Grass types.

For any competition in the GO Battle League, you’ll want to assemble three Pokémon, including your lead for each battle. While not particularly weak to Water-type attacks, Galarian Weezing doesn’t excel against them either, making Ferrothorn—a Grass and Steel-type—an ideal teammate. Ferrothorn can withstand attacks from all three main types featured in the Spring Cup. Lastly, Lapras not only holds its own but can learn Psywave, which can deal significant damage to Galarian Weezing if it’s present on the opposing team.

Numerous Viable Options

For trainers looking to mix things up in the Ultra League, there are plenty of alternatives. Corviknight, with its Flying and Steel typing, has quickly established itself as a popular choice thanks to its resistances and minimal weaknesses. Pairing it with the strong duo of Feraligatr and Primeape creates a powerful team that can tackle a wide range of opposing Pokémon.

In the Spring Cup: Great League, alternatives can effectively counter the previously mentioned meta Pokémon. Pelipper, a Water and Flying-type, is an adaptable option that pairs well with the robust Rock and Grass-type Cradily, alongside Klefki, which is both a Steel and Fairy-type. There are many competitive options for both the Ultra League and Spring Cup: Great League Edition in Pokémon GO, and selecting the best teams can significantly enhance your chances of achieving more victories.
