Once you’ve set up your base, it’s time to recruit some soldiers. Lepant’s Mansion is one of the more unusual dungeons you’ll encounter in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster. While it’s relatively short, it features some challenging enemies and a bizarre trap that works like a mini-game.
This guide will outline the various treasures in Lepant’s mansion and explain the traps along with strategies for dealing with the formidable robot sentries found throughout the dungeon.
Entering Lepant’s Mansion
Once you reach town, go to the large mansion. You’ll find out that you can’t meet Lepant. Instead, make your way to the inn where you’ll meet Kirin. He’ll share a plan for getting in touch with Lepant, which involves a bit of breaking and entering.
After climbing down from the roof, you’ll start by moving around the rafters. There’s a treasure chest up here containing shoulder pads. After descending the ladder and entering the main building, head into the room south of the one you just left (the one with the ladder). Talk to Roc, and he will join your army. The two chests next to him hold 700 Potch and some medicine.
Roc allows you to store any unused equipment and items at your castle.
In Lepant’s Mansion, you’ll face off against Robot Soldiers. These foes can be quite tough, especially the sword-wielding ones. To enhance your combat effectiveness, equipping the Lightning Rune Piece that you obtained on Mt. Seifu to your hero’s staff would be wise, as these enemies are vulnerable to lightning damage.
Proceed into the room on your right, where you’ll encounter several sentries. You must navigate around them without crossing their line of sight. If you accidentally break their focus, you’ll have to fight. The chest in the bottom right corner contains a counter orb. After leaving the sentry room, check the northeast room for a treasure chest that holds a SPD Rune Piece.
SPD Rune Pieces can be utilized to permanently boost the speed attribute of one character.
Next, move south and descend the stairs. In this new area, you’ll find four treasure chests. The one in the easternmost room contains a Fire Rune Piece. To the left is a chest with leather armor, then medicine to the left of that, and finally a can of white paint in the leftmost room (this will be useful for recruiting a character later).
You’ll also come across a man named Juppo. Speaking with him will disable some traps, though he can’t handle the giant wheel in the next room.
You can actually recruit Juppo simply by talking to him. After this quest, he will be a part of your army.
The Giant Wheel
Upon entering the final room, you’ll see a massive wheel. Standing on the arrow at the bottom will set it spinning. There are five tile types you might land on…
Monster Tile |
You’ll face off against four robot soldiers. |
---|---|
Treasure Tile |
This gives you some medicine. |
-10 EXP |
This deducts 10 experience points from every party member. |
+10 EXP |
This grants 10 experience points to each party member. |
? Tiles |
This could result in either a Dragon Incense or a Fortune Rune Piece. |
You can also land on the exit, allowing you to proceed and obtain Lepant’s prized sword: Kirinji. The outcome of the wheel is entirely based on luck; you might land on the exit on your first spin or it could take several tries.
After the first time you land on the ‘? tile’, you will receive a Fortune Rune Piece every time you hit it afterward. This will permanently boost your luck stat, but only the most dedicated players should go after this.
Rescuing Eileen
After obtaining the sword, Lepant will confront you at the inn. However, he soon runs off to rescue his wife. Follow Lepant to the commander’s house. After helping him eliminate a few soldiers, he’ll join your party. In the room to the south, there’s a treasure chest that contains a Water Rune Piece.
Move forward, and you will encounter two rooms. The left room has an antique in a treasure chest, while the right room leads you to an old acquaintance: Kraze. This encounter doesn’t involve a boss fight; you simply need to deal with six soldiers, after which you ‘defeat’ him and recruit Lepant, Eileen, and Pahn.
You have the option to either execute Kraze or let him go. Your choice here does not affect anything else in the game.
