Revving Up Your Pocket TCG Battles with Fighting Types

With the launch of the Space-Time Smackdown expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, players can now engage in battles featuring a slew of exciting and powerful new cards. From ex cards that hit hard to strategic supporter cards, there’s a wide array of choices to enhance your existing decks. Among these, the Fighting-type deck stands out with significant improvements that can elevate your game. A well-constructed deck should harmonize Pokémon, supporters, items, and tool cards for optimal performance in competitive matches.

This particular Fighting-type deck capitalizes on the impressive synergy between Lucario and Gallade ex from the Space-Time Smackdown expansion. Both cards are designed for packing consistent firepower. With the right strategy, this deck can unleash relentless and devastating attacks, swiftly overwhelming any opponent. While Fighting-type cards may have been underappreciated in earlier expansions, the recent additions have transformed them into a formidable choice.

Card List for the Fighting Deck

Suggestions and Alternatives

This deck’s primary damage dealers are Gallade ex, Lucario, and Hitmonchan. To begin, Gallade ex is a Stage Two Pokémon evolved from two Psychic-type cards, which must first be benched before it can unleash its full potential. Its attack, “Energized Blade,” inflicts 70 base damage plus an extra 20 damage for each energy attached to your opponent’s Active Pokémon. This is particularly effective against Celebi ex in TCG Pocket, as that card’s strategy revolves around maximizing energy attachments.

Card Name Quantity Card Type Attacks + Abilities
Ralts 2 Basic Teleport: Switch this Pokémon with one of your Benched Pokémon.
Kirlia 2 Stage 1 Slap: 20 Damage.
Gallade ex 2 Stage 2 Energized Blade: 70+ Damage + This attack does 20 more damage for each Energy attached to your opponent’s Active Pokémon.
Riolu 2 Basic Jab: 20 Damage.
Lucario 2 Stage 1 Fighting Coach: Attacks from your Pokémon do +20 damage to your opponent’s Active Pokémon. Submarine Blow: 40 Damage.
Hitmonchan 2 Basic Jab: 30 Damage.
Professor’s Research 2 Supporter Draw two cards.
Poké Ball 2 Item Put a random Basic Pokémon from your deck into your hand.
X Speed 1 Item During this turn, the Retreat Cost of your Active Pokémon is one less.
Rocky Helmet 1 Tool If the Pokémon this card is attached to is in the Active Spot and receives damage from an opponent’s attack, deal 20 damage to the attacking Pokémon.
Giovanni 1 Supporter This turn, attacks from your Pokémon do +10 damage to the opponent’s Active Pokémon.
Sabrina 1 Supporter Switch out your opponent’s Active Pokémon with one from their Bench. (Your opponent selects the new Active Pokémon.)

Another highlight in this deck is Lucario, which boosts the power and effectiveness of other cards. Its ability, “Fighting Coach,” increases damage by 20 for all attacks from Fighting-type Pokémon. This enhancement makes the attacks of Hitmonchan and Gallade ex even more formidable, justifying energy attachments for maximum impact.

Hitmonchan may seem like a weak link, but this card can pose serious challenges for opponents. With its “Jab,” Hitmonchan inflicts 30 damage with just one Fighting-type energy, and with Lucario’s ability, this rises to an impressive 50 damage, making it a quick and cost-effective option for sustained attacks.

Winning Strategy for Your Fighting Deck

Tips and Recommendations for Gameplay

Patience is key to thriving with this deck. Defensive tactics can keep you in the match while you work on getting Gallade ex and Lucario into play. Utilize the Rocky Helmet for passive damage. When attached to Hitmonchan in the Active Spot, it can deliver 20 damage back to any attacking Pokémon, buying you precious time to set up your more powerful attackers.

Use Professor’s Research and Poké Ball to sift through your deck faster and pull the cards you need.

Once set, leverage Lucario’s ability to amplify the damage of either Hitmonchan or Gallade ex when they’re in the game. With its substantial damage capability, Gallade ex can take down nearly any opponent’s Pokémon, especially when considering the added 20 damage for each energy attached to them. This approach will greatly enhance your chances of victory in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
