Just like Metal Gear Solid 3 and 5, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has several in-game animals for players to discover and collect. These creatures are prominently featured in the opening and closing cinematics that are so realistic that some viewers mistook them for real-life footage. There are two trophies related to finding animals, but fortunately, you won’t have to “catch ’em all” like you would in MGS5.
However, you will need to locate and deliver one rare albino animal, which can’t be captured through fishing—a missed chance for Death Stranding 2. Albino animals are both rare and challenging to identify, but there’s an amazing location where you can achieve two goals at once: securing both the Rare Specimen Rescuer and Rail Restorer trophies. This makes it the most efficient route during your journey for the Platinum trophy in Death Stranding 2.
Understanding Albino Animals and How to Spot One
Difficult to Identify at First
Similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, there are a variety of intriguing and rare animals to track down, but it can be tricky to know exactly what you’ve found. An albino animal in Death Stranding 2 is a rare form of a specific species, characterized by its pure white fur. While Red Dead Redemption 2 provides handy binoculars that offer useful details about the animals you encounter, in Death Stranding 2, you only receive minimal assistance.
Keep in mind that special animals delivered to the Animal Shelter for Sub Orders do not count toward the trophy.
Dollman won’t tell you if the animal you see is a rare type. Instead, you’ll need to navigate an obscure menu feature to confirm whether the animal in your possession is indeed the rare variant. Open the Cargo menu, select the specific animal, and read its description. Look for a second sentence that identifies it as a rare specimen. If the first paragraph is a single short sentence, you don’t have an albino animal. While these unique animals can be found in various locations, the best spot for the albino Tasmanian Devil stands out.
The Optimal Location for Capturing an Albino Animal
The Elusive Devil in the Rear
In the early stages of Death Stranding 2, players must construct a monorail line near West Fort Knot (F1) as part of the storyline. One of the trophies, Rail Restorer, requires players to reactivate the entire monorail line from start to finish. Since you have already built some parts, the best route goes from West Fort Knot (F1) to the Mine near the F3 Crater, located northeast of The Dowser.
The easiest alternative for finding an albino animal is the albino kangaroo, but it’s further away from the Animal Shelter, located in the desert near The Motherhood.
It’s convenient that the monorail line ends at this specific location because you can also encounter the albino Tasmanian Devil right here. Just behind the Mine near the F3 Crater, you’ll find a good number of Chiral Crystals along with a sneaky albino Tasmanian Devil lurking nearby. I spotted the animal at night, and after you catch it, make your way back to the Animal Shelter to trigger the trophy upon delivery. Although the journey back may take some time, handling other orders along the way can be beneficial.
Since you’re already heading to the Mine near the F3 Crater for the Rail Restorer trophy, this route is the most efficient for pursuing the Death Stranding 2 Platinum trophy. The albino kangaroo is another option, but it’s located much farther from the Animal Shelter, while the Mine area is more accessible and allows for progress toward two trophies simultaneously. This makes it the ideal spot to nab the Rare Specimen Rescuer trophy in Death Stranding 2.
