Pokémon GO will introduce Gigantamax Machamp during the upcoming Max Battle Day this weekend. Since its introduction to the game last year, Gigantamax Max Battles have become some of the most difficult challenges for players. Although they’ve been adjusted since their rocky launch, they still provide a significant challenge, often requiring teams of players to succeed. So far, eight have been included in the game, but the most formidable Pokémon for battling is making its debut.
The Gigantamax Machamp Max Battle Day is scheduled for Sunday, May 25, from 2 PM to 5 PM local time. During this time, players will encounter Gigantamax Machamp more frequently at Power Spots across the Pokémon GO landscape. While solo players might handle some Dynamax battles, defeating Gigantamax battles, including Machamp, falls under tier 6 raids, meaning teamwork is crucial. Choosing the right counters to take on Gigantamax Machamp is essential.
Gigantamax Machamp’s Weaknesses & Resistance in Pokémon GO
Three Key Weaknesses to Help You Win the Battle
Normal and Dynamax Machamp are among the strongest attackers in the game, and Gigantamax Machamp is even more formidable. To face it, players will need to spend 800 Max Particles. Based on past Gigantamax battles, having a team of at least ten players is recommended, with the option to join forces with up to 39 others in Pokémon GO.
All Gigantamax Battles are classified as 6-Star Max Battles, making them the toughest raids in Pokémon GO.
Gigantamax Machamp is a pure Fighting-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, which means it has three weaknesses: it is vulnerable to Flying-, Psychic-, and Fairy-type attacks. During Gigantamax Battles, only Gigantamax or Dynamax Pokémon can be used, which limits your options since there are relatively few Pokémon available in those forms.
Additionally, Gigantamax Machamp takes reduced damage from Bug-, Dark-, and Rock-type attacks. It’s advisable not to fill your lineup with these types to avoid significant weaknesses. Team balance is crucial, as the health of the enemy Pokémon increases in Gigantamax Battles, emphasizing the need for a well-rounded team.
Best Counters for Gigantamax Machamp in Pokémon GO
Metagross: The Top Attacker to Utilize
Despite limited options for this Gigantamax Max Battle, several Pokémon excel against it. Dynamax Metagross stands out as the top attacker, being a dual Steel- and Psychic-type. For maximum effectiveness, equip it with the Fast Move Zen Headbutt, as this Psychic-type attack is super-effective against Machamp.
Additionally, Pokémon with Flying-type moves can also perform well against Machamp. The Legendary birds from Generation One, including Dynamax Moltres, introduced earlier this year, are excellent choices. It can learn various Flying-type attacks, including Wing Attack. Dynamax Charizard also offers valuable Flying-type moves, such as Air Slash and Wing Attack.
It’s advisable to use Dynamax Charizard over Gigantamax Charizard, as the latter only has Fire-type moves, which are not effective against Machamp.
You can select three Pokémon for each Gigantamax Max Battle, making it beneficial to choose two attacking Pokémon and either a Defender or a Healer. The best defensive choices include Gigantamax Venusaur or Gigantamax Blastoise, and for Healers, Dynamax Blissey remains a solid choice, even though it’s vulnerable to Machamp’s attacks.
