Gigantamax Lapras is making its return to Pokémon GO for the exciting Max Battle Day. If you’re hoping to catch this formidable Pokémon, you’ll want to come prepared. Gigantamax Lapras Day takes place on Saturday, July 19, from 2 PM to 5 PM in your local time zone.
Gigantamax Pokémon feature prominently in specific gameplay scenarios in Pokémon GO. Due to their extremely high CP, they can be particularly challenging to catch. During this event, they’ll be the only Pokémon found in Power Spots. Previously, encountering Gigantamax Pokémon was a daunting task, but with the right strategies, they can now be defeated.

Weaknesses and Resistances of Gigantamax Lapras in Pokémon GO
Four Primary Weaknesses to Exploit
As a Water and Ice-type Pokémon, Gigantamax Lapras has four weaknesses you can target: Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Rock-type attacks. Including Pokémon with these types in your lineup will significantly improve your chances of taking down Lapras.
Fortunately, Gigantamax Lapras only resists two types of attacks: its own Water and Ice types. While you should prioritize using super-effective types, make sure to avoid utilizing these two types, as they won’t inflict much damage.
Best Counters for Gigantamax Lapras in Pokémon GO
Using Gigantamax and Dynamax Pokémon
The good news is that Gigantamax Lapras has become considerably easier to defeat since its introduction in 2024. For Gigantamax Battles, you’ll need to utilize either Gigantamax or Dynamax Pokémon. Fortunately, the choices available have expanded significantly, with strong options for all four types effective against Lapras.
The top choice for dealing damage is Gigantamax Rillaboom. This pure Grass-type boasts moves that are super-effective against Lapras, allowing for quick, substantial hits. If you have other Gigantamax Pokémon that specialize in Grass, Fighting, or Electric types, those should definitely be included in your strategy. Gigantamax Machamp, Gigantamax Venusaur, and Gigantamax Toxtricity are also excellent counters capable of delivering significant damage.
Collaboration among trainers is essential to defeat Gigantamax Lapras. Even with the optimal counters, teamwork is critical for success.
While I’ve found that around ten trainers are ideal for tackling this challenge, you can also use remote raid passes to connect with others more easily. Gigantamax Lapras stands out as one of the strongest Pokémon you can encounter in Pokémon GO, making the Max Battle Day a valuable opportunity to take it down.
