The next Max Monday event is set to hit Pokémon GO, featuring the debut of Dynamax Pidove. While it may not rank among the top-tier Pokémon, its final evolution, Unfezant, can be quite beneficial in Pokémon GO, particularly when in its Dynamax form. The Max Hour occurs every Monday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time, spotlighting a different Pokémon each week, with Pidove scheduled for Monday, February 17. Recently, more Dynamax Pokémon, including Moltres, have joined the line-up in Pokémon GO.
You’ll find Pidove Max Battles rated at one-star difficulty, meaning players can easily win them solo. However, it’s essential to assemble a team of Pokémon that are strong against it. Even though players have the option to tackle it alone, up to three additional local players can join for the Max Battles. This marks the first chance to catch Dynamax Pidove before it becomes part of the regular Max Raids, set to appear in the Raid Boss Schedule from February 17-24 and February 24 to March 3.
Understanding the Weaknesses and Resistances of Dynamax Pidove in Pokémon GO
Target These Three Weaknesses
In Max Battles, you are limited to using Pokémon that can already Dynamax. You can acquire these by completing specific research tasks, capturing a Dynamax Pokémon, or evolving one.
On the flip side, Pidove boasts resistance against four different Pokémon types. Specifically, it takes less damage from Bug- and Grass-type attacks, while Ground- and Ghost-type attacks deal even less damage. Therefore, when preparing for this Max Battle, avoid using these types of Pokémon.
During the Max Monday hour, Pidove will take the spotlight as the sole Pokémon for Max Battles. To participate in Pidove Max Battles, you’ll need to locate Power Spots, accessible through the nearby menu to find the ones nearest to you. Once in battle, attacks proceed in turns, differentiating from the standard battles in the GO Battle League. Each strike contributes to filling your Max Meter, and once it’s full, it allows you to unleash Max Moves, although these moves should not be required to defeat Pidove.
The Most Effective Counters to Dynamax Pidove in Pokémon GO
Electric, Ice, and Rock Types for the Win
Recently, the introduction of multiple Pokémon in their Dynamax forms via Max Battles has provided plenty of options that can exploit Pidove’s three weaknesses. Among the standout choices are the formidable Generation One Legendaries, Dynamax Zapdos and Dynamax Articuno, who were released alongside Moltres. These fan-favorites are currently among the strongest Dynamax Pokémon in Pokémon GO.
Once you’ve successfully defeated Pidove, you’ll have an opportunity to catch it. You can then evolve Pidove into Tranquill for 12 Pidove Candy and further transform it into Unfezant for 50 Pidove Candy. These candies can be obtained either by capturing more Pidoves, using rare candies, or by walking with it as your buddy Pokémon.
Moreover, several Pokémon released soon after the introduction of Max Battles are also very effective against Pidove, increasing the odds that you already have one in your collection. This includes Ice-type Cryogonal and Electric- and Poison-type Toxtricity, provided it’s equipped with Electric-type moves.
Each time you defeat Pidove in the Max Battles, you’ll get another chance to catch it, along with a slight chance of encountering a shiny Pidove. Given the frequent occurrence of its regular form in Pokémon GO, evolving one to its final stage should be quite manageable. While Dynamax Pidove isn’t the most challenging Pokémon to vanquish in Max Battles, this debut into Pokémon GO makes it worth participating in Max Monday to ensure you can add it to your collection.
