The newest addition to the Dynamax roster in Pokémon GO is Hatenna, which will be highlighted during Max Mondays. After a slow rollout last year, new Dynamax Pokémon have been consistently released, with Hatenna and its evolutions being the latest features of this weekly event. Previous Dynamax offerings have included several strong Pokémon like Dynamax Suicune in Max Battles.
While Dynamax Pokémon can be caught at any time in Pokémon GO, the best chances come during the weekly Max Mondays events. For one hour on a Monday, a specific Pokémon will appear exclusively in Power Spots and will be available for Max battles. On Monday, June 16, from 6 PM to 7 PM local time, players will have the opportunity to battle the Psychic-type Hatenna. After this event, Hatenna will reappear in the regular rotation of Max Battles as part of the monthly Raid Boss schedule, providing further chances to snag it if you miss out or want to gather more candies.

Weaknesses & Resistances of Dynamax Hatenna in Pokémon GO
Key Weaknesses to Target
Hatenna stands out among Dynamax Pokémon for being a pure Psychic-type. Therefore, it is particularly vulnerable to Bug-, Dark-, and Ghost-type attacks, which deal an extra 60% damage. Max Mondays is part of the new Delightful Days season in Pokémon GO, offering various advantages for players throughout the summer.
Given its Psychic type, Hatenna’s evolution line offers significant utility in Pokémon GO. Currently, only Dynamax Metagross possesses the capability to learn Psychic-type moves.
On the flip side, Hatenna also enjoys damage reduction from specific types. As a Psychic-type, it stands strong against Fighting- and Psychic-type attacks, taking 37.5% less damage from moves belonging to these categories. Thus, players should avoid using Pokémon with these moves when assembling their team.
Selecting the right lineup is crucial, as Dynamax Hatenna is a tier-three Max Battle. This means you’ll need either a team of perfect counters or assistance from multiple players. While all Max Battles can be tackled solo or with friends, more challenging battles often require collaboration. To take on Hatenna during Max Mondays, simply locate a nearby Power Spot, as all will feature it. You can also participate remotely due to changes in remote raid passes in Pokémon GO.
Top Counters for Dynamax Hatenna in Pokémon GO
Limited Yet Effective Counter Options
Despite having three weaknesses, the variety of effective counters for Dynamax Hatenna is surprisingly limited. In Max Battles, you can only deploy Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon, and available options that align with its weaknesses are scarce. The top choice is either Gigantamax or Dynamax Gengar. Gengar, with its Ghost type, has received much attention and is well-equipped with moves that can defeat Hatenna. If you have multiple Dynamax Gengars, this is the perfect opportunity to utilize them.
13 Rarest Pokémon In Pokémon GO & How To Catch Them
While there are countless Pokémon to capture in Pokémon GO, some are much rarer than others, including regional exclusives and Armored Mewtwo.
Another strong counter is Dynamax Ursifu. As a Fighting- and Dark-type Pokémon, it can use Dark-type Fast and Charged Attacks, which work particularly well against Hatenna. Recently, its pre-evolution, Kubfu, was featured on Max Mondays.
While there aren’t many Dynamax evolution lines in Pokémon GO that fit into the three types that are particularly effective, Dynamax Metagross is still a solid choice. It can utilize Bug-type moves to gain an advantage over Hatenna. Overall, Dynamax Hatenna presents a formidable challenge during Max Mondays, but with the right super-effective moves, you can emerge victorious.
