While Umamusume: Pretty Derby is a gacha game, it can be tough if you tend to pull on every banner. The banners and pity resets happen frequently, with new three-star characters like Curren Chan featured on the Derby banner. Each character, though, offers something unique to the race track.
At first glance, Curren Chan might seem similar to other sprint characters, but the gameplay is much deeper. If you manage to get Curren Chan, she could be your key to winning all the short-distance races.
How to Play Curren Chan
Before building her, review her ratings for distance and style. Curren Chan is unique because she only has one distance and style type, both rated A. Typically, characters have decent ratings in two distance types, which shape their careers. Since Curren is only effective in sprint races, her entire career should focus on sprinting. This means she probably won’t perform well in G1 races of longer distances since she’s less suited for them.
Regarding style, you can choose either Front Runner or Pace Chaser, but reaching A-rank requires certain legacy bonuses for the Front Runner style. Her main strength is her abilities, which are mainly red debuffs once her potential is fully unlocked. Her special skill grants her extra abilities when she passes another racer mid-race while in a good position. At maximum, she has powerful debuffs that can impact both racers ahead and behind her during races.
Curren Chan’s Best Stats
Her base stats show the highest values in Power, followed by Speed and Wit. These are the most important for her. She also has growth rates of 20% in Power and 10% in Speed, meaning she gains more points in training these stats over time.
The best build for Curren Chan focuses on her debuffing abilities, turning her into a support character. In Endgame Team Trials, which allow a team of three characters per race, Curren Chan can serve as a sprinter who primarily applies debuffs rather than just aiming to win.
Note: She still has a good chance to win if built correctly, especially with effective debuffs.
In a Sprint team, her main role is to weaken other runners. For example, pairing two Front Runner characters with Curren as a Pace Chaser can allow her to debuff rivals behind her, making it easier for your front racers to take first.
This setup, however, requires very high Speed and Wit. Wit increases your chance to trigger skills, which is critical for this build. Ideally, aim for 1,200 in both Speed and Wit, which will also boost her Power to a solid level.
Legacy Recommendations for Curren Chan
Since Speed and Wit are key for her, focus on acquiring a nine-star legacy in these stats. Also, aim to get as many debuff abilities and race buffs as possible to maximize her support potential.
Best Skills for Curren Chan
Her skill set is centered around red abilities, which focus on weakening other racers. The top skills include:
- Hesitant Skills: These trigger when used against other style types (like Pace Chasers or Front Runners) to reduce their stats, especially useful if you suspect your opponents will run these styles.
- Adored by All: Allows her to intimidate hunters behind her when placed near the front early in a race, boosting her support role.
- Disorient: This skill reduces the field of view for racers behind her when she’s in front, helping both her and other front-runners.
- Straightaway Skills: Grant stamina and speed boosts on straight sections, making her more competitive.
- No Stopping Me!: Can help her break out of the pack at the last stretch if used as a Pace Chaser.
Best Support Cards for Curren Chan
When supporting Curren Chan, a common strategy is to use a triple Speed and Wit lineup with support cards. Some top choices include:
- Kitasan Black (Fire at My Heels): Excellent overall, especially synergizing with her Front Runner build.
- Twin Turbo (Turbo Boost!): Good for her style, providing valuable skills.
- Biko Pegasus (Double Carrot Punch!): Not the best for training points but useful for buffs and debuffs.
- Fine Motion (Wave of Gratitude): The top Wit support card, ideal for her build.
- Fuji Kiseki (Well, Look Who’s Home): An SR card offering useful debuffs, also easier to max out.
While supporting her, focus on stacking Speed and Wit boost cards. These will enhance her chances of triggering skills and applying debuffs effectively.
