New Ghost Recon Game Confirmed
At its latest shareholder meeting, Ubisoft announced that a new Ghost Recon game is in development. This announcement follows rumors of a new title set during a fictional Naiman War, featuring gameplay aspects similar to Modern Warfare and Ready or Not.
However, there is a catch: it appears this game will be a live-service title.
What to Expect from the New Game
According to Insider Gaming and a report from Stephen Totilo’s GameFile newsletter, Ubisoft confirmed that the next Ghost Recon will be a first-person shooter, moving away from the third-person perspective seen in Wildlands and Breakpoint.
Moreover, CEO Yves Guillemot highlighted the success of Rainbow Six Siege as a live-service game, stating:
“Our objective is to also make strong progress in the growing market, generally speaking, by continuing to enhance our current experiences that we offer—and capitalizing on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon.”
This suggests that when the new Ghost Recon launches, it will likely include live-service features common in the genre, such as battle passes, skins, and weapon unlocks.
In the past, Ghost Recon has already included some of these features. For example, Wildlands had a limited-time crossover with The Predator. If you were hoping for a less intrusive experience, it seems you may be disappointed.
