In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the Abandoned Laborer quest involves Link rescuing a Goron trapped within a mine that is about to explode. With no escape route available for him, you become the sole hope for this unfortunate soul in all of Hyrule, armed with your versatile abilities.
This guide will outline how to initiate the Abandoned Laborer side quest and present multiple strategies for rescuing the stranded Goron.
Initiating the Abandoned Laborer Quest

To kick off the Abandoned Laborer side quest in Zelda: TotK, head over to the Death Mountain West Tunnel. This tunnel is situated northwest of Death Mountain in the Eldin Region, with its entrance coordinates being (2341, 2686, and 0514).

Upon arrival, speak with the Goron at the tunnel’s entrance. He will inform you about the laborer trapped inside the cave, initiating the quest.
Completing the Abandoned Laborer Quest
Before entering the cave, ensure you either drink a Flame-Resistant Potion or wear the Flamebreaker armor. Don’t forget to remove any wooden shields or weapons to prevent them from catching fire.
Enter the tunnel and navigate across the lava-filled pit using your paraglider. On the far side, you’ll find a Goron named Mota.
Mota will request your assistance in getting across the lava pit, and you have a few methods to solve this challenge.
One approach is to grab a cart nearby and position it on the train tracks next to Mota. Speak with him, and he will hop into the cart. If you’ve previously completed the Fire Temple and unlocked Yunobo’s Charge ability, summon him to strike the rear of the cart.

This will propel the cart across the lava pit. Alternatively, you can break a nearby wall using a blunt weapon. Behind the wall, you’ll discover a couple of Zonai Rockets.

Collect both rockets, attach them to the back of the cart using Ultrahand, and once Mota is seated in the cart, strike it with a weapon to activate the rockets. This will propel the cart over the broken bridge.
After crossing the bridge, converse with Mota to successfully finish the quest.
Rewards for Completing the Abandoned Laborer Quest

After your successful rescue, Mota will express his gratitude and reward you with a Large Zonai Charge. This concludes the Abandoned Laborer side quest in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
