If you get Yao Guang and plan to use her in your team, improving her build should be a top priority. This is especially true during the year set in Planarcadia. Yao Guang is a five-star Physical character on the Path of Elation, making her the first character to appear on this new Path. She was also the first new character introduced with the release of Honkai: Star Rail version 4.0.
Yao Guang is mainly a support character. She can boost her allies’ All-Type Resistance Penetration, similar to Ruan Mei, while also dealing extra damage to enemies. However, her main focus is supporting Elation-type characters. Although her exact role in future updates isn’t fully known, she’s expected to be one of the best supports for Elation teams.
Best Light Cones for Yao Guang
There are only a few good options right now for her Light Cones. The top pick is her signature weapon, When She Decided To See, a five-star Light Cone. It increases her Speed, which is her most important stat, and grants Great Fortune for three turns when she uses her Ultimate.
Other good options include:
- Mushy Shroomy’s Adventures (a four-star F2P Light Cone available from the Light Cone Manifest store), which boosts her Elation value.
- Today’s Good Luck (a four-star Light Cone, available via Battle Pass), which enhances her Crit Rate and Elation gain, better suited for Elation damage dealers.
Recommended Relics and Stats
The best relic set for Yao Guang is Diviner of Distant Reach. Wearing four pieces boosts her Speed by 6%, and if her Speed is 120 or higher, she gains increased Crit Rate before battle. When she first uses her Elation skill in combat, it also increases her allies’ Elation values, supporting her role as a support.
For ornaments, Lushaka, the Sunken Seas is ideal. Its bonus enhances Energy Recharge, and if she’s not the first character in the lineup, it boosts her team’s Attack. Focus on increasing her Speed to over 160 to activate full relic bonuses, then improve her Crit Rate and Crit Damage to deal more damage, while also boosting her Energy Recharge to use her Ultimate more often. Don’t forget to add some HP and Defense to improve her survivability.
Team Recommendations
Yao Guang is most effective when supporting Elation characters like Sparxie. She’s great at helping Elation team members shine, especially with her Boost Punchlines ability.
Some team setups include:
- An Elation Support Team: Yao Guang, Sparxie, Sparkle, and either Hyacine or Permansor Terrae.
- A budget-friendly team: Yao Guang, Dan Heng, Trailblazer, and Natasha.
Even if you’re not using Elation characters, Yao Guang can still work as a versatile supporter for other damage-dealing characters, especially those who use Skill Points.
Skill Priorities
Yao Guang’s skills are somewhat complex. Her Ultimate and Skill are both high-priority upgrades, along with her three bonus Traces. Her Talent and Basic Attack are less urgent. Upgrading her skills properly ensures she gets the most out of her support potential, especially her Ultimate, which she will use often with the right gear.
Final Tips
Yao Guang will likely play a significant role in the game’s meta through 2026, thanks to her powerful support buffs for Elation characters. While it might be tricky to fully optimize her due to limited Light Cone choices, she remains a highly valuable addition to your roster in Honkai: Star Rail.
