Equipment in Neon Abyss 2
Each roguelike or roguelite game has special gear that stands out and is a big part of your build. This includes cards, armor, weapons, or other items. Neon Abyss 2 offers over 100 unique weapons you can find or unlock as you play, giving you lots of variety.
Variety and Play Styles
There’s something for everyone. You can build a setup where your Hatchmon do most of the work while you focus on dodging. Or you might prefer a close-combat style where you move between enemies rapidly. With so many choices, here’s a look at some of the best options to keep an eye out for.
Note
Neon Abyss 2 is currently in Early Access on Steam, so details may change over time.
Noxmare
- How to Unlock: It’s available from the start.
Noxmare is a Hatchmon-type weapon. It deals strong damage over time with Poison that stacks on enemies. When the Poison reaches nine stacks, it explodes, causing huge damage.
It doesn’t get a bonus directly from Hatchmon or Eggs, but it allows your Hatchmon’s attacks to stack Poison on enemies. Even a few Hatchmon can max out Poison and trigger huge explosions by themselves.
Noxmare comes with its own special Hatchmon, so you’re guaranteed at least one helping you out. You can also get two more with the Adorable Support Fate Card activated.
Even with fewer Hatchmon, Noxmare can do a lot of damage because there’s no cooldown or Poison resistance on enemies or bosses. As long as you’re dodging, Poison stacks will chip away at enemies’ health.
9th Color
- How to Unlock: From the start.
The 9th Color is a crystal-type weapon. Every nine shots, it transforms into a powerful attack, like a rainbow beam or homing projectiles.
It has a fast firing rate, so you can reach these special attacks quickly. It does decent damage on its own, so your DPS doesn’t drop between empowered attacks.
Using Crystals—by opening chests or items—can boost your attacks further. This allows you to prepare for bosses or challenges by leaving Crystals around, which also lets you pick up Crystals even when you’re full, making frequent empowered attacks likely.
Raptor
- How to Unlock: From the beginning.
Raptor has a good fire rate, making it easy to clear rooms. Its special ability releases homing missiles after several shots, which helps take down enemies and bosses quickly.
The more bombs you have, the more missiles Raptor fires. You can increase your bombs by unlocking perks or collecting resources, giving you more firepower.
Pairing Raptor with characters who start with bombs, like Nik and James, boosts its effectiveness early. Having many bombs also provides steady damage, especially when combined with the Consumerism Faith option.
Sunder
- How to Unlock: Have three Blue Wisps active at once during a run.
Sunder is a Wisp-type weapon. It has an extremely fast fire rate and longer range than many weapons because of how it fires projectiles. It’s very effective at tearing through enemies and bosses.
More Wisps increase Sunder’s critical chance, making it even more powerful. You can unlock Wisp-related perks in the Evolve menu, such as Wisp Crates and the Tenebrism Faith, which helps you gather more Wisps quickly.
Tip: Unlock the Teary-eyed Fate Card to prevent damage when changing Faiths. This way, you can keep boosting Tenebrism Faith and stacking Wisps without risk.
Topspin
- How to Unlock: Hatch ten Hatchmon eggs successfully.
Topspin is one of the strongest weapons in the game, especially with many Hatchmon around. Each tennis ball it generates increases in speed, size, and damage. It can also bounce off Hatchmon to get those benefits.
Having three or four Hatchmon makes each tennis ball a damage powerhouse. Using the Agapeism Faith and the Adorable Support Fate Card, you can quickly build a large army of Hatchmon.
In tight rooms with walls, the projectiles bounce and hit enemies repeatedly, making it great for bosses and intense fights. It’s a reliable choice for consistent damage with minimal setup.
Icelume
- How to Unlock: Complete a run with any Crystal-type weapon.
Icelume is a Crystal-type weapon. Every few hits, it automatically fires a frost laser at enemies. When you consume Crystals, it spawns Frost Cores that mimic your attacks, creating multiple lasers.
This makes it very effective against enemies and bosses, especially in wide-open areas. Increasing your Crystal containers adds more Frost Cores, boosting damage further. Artifacts that increase Crystal capacity also stack and can lead to a large army of Frost Cores.
Taomu
- How to Unlock: From the start.
Taomu is a melee and Jump-type weapon. Its basic effect gives you an extra jump, helping you dodge attacks and reach high places.
When fully charged, it releases homing talismans that do a lot of damage. When the talismans vanish, they leave flames behind that damage enemies even more.
You can charge the attack while moving, letting you focus on dodging. The homing ability helps hit enemies, even if they move around or teleport. Combining it with items that give additional jumps increases the number of talismans released and overall damage.
Ghostprint
- How to Unlock: From the start.
Ghostprint is a Key-type weapon. For each Key you have, it spawns a clone that copies your movements and attacks. This can multiply your damage—doubling, tripling, or more.
It deals excellent damage, especially with its bonus for consecutive hits. A few Keys mean multiple clones attacking the same enemy, adding significant damage to bosses or tough opponents.
Gaining Keys is often based on luck, but you can start with one by picking a certain character or use perks like the Temple of Consumerism, which sells Keys often.
RITUAL
- How to Unlock: Complete one run with any Hatchmon-type weapon.
RITUAL is a Hatchmon-type weapon. It works best with Hatchmon allies. It summons its own Hatchmon and empowers its third attack to deal extra damage and mark enemies.
Marked enemies are targeted by bone spikes generated around each Hatchmon, causing big damage. The weapon also has a longer range than other melee weapons thanks to its third hit, and combining it with the Temple of Agapeism allows you to hatch multiple Hatchmon, creating a troop of spike-throwers.
Celody
- How to Unlock: Obtain 20 Artifacts with the Jump tag across all runs.
Celody is a unique Crystal-type weapon. When you hold down fire, it builds stars that connect. The longer you hold, the more stars you generate, and it also grants an extra jump.
The connected stars deal massive damage when they hit enemies or enemies trap inside their rotating field. You can also jump into enemies to damage them directly or expand the field temporarily to turn it into a powerful melee weapon.
Switching between melee and ranged attacks is easy. The star formations can be fired off in smaller groups or the full setup, making Celody versatile for different combat situations.
