Killing Floor 3 offers a wide variety of weapons for players to choose from, allowing you to select the ones that fit your play style best. However, you might want to customize your weapons further, and that’s where weapon mods come in.
Mods let you change a gun’s specs, such as boosting damage, penetration, or firing speed. To create these mods, you’ll need resources, which you can gather during your missions. Here’s the best way to personalize your weapons as you fight off the Zed hordes.
How to Craft Weapon Mods
Weapon mods are crafted using resources you earn by defeating enemies and completing missions. The main resources include:
- Chemical agent
- Electrical parts
- Scrap metal
- Bio samples
- Gray matter
- Bio steel
- Zed tech
- Ichor
Once you gather enough of these items, you can use them to make different types of ammunition, gun sights, magazines, and more. Head to the armory, where you’ll see how much of each resource you need for your desired mods. It will also tell you how much the mod will cost in your operational budget, so you can manage your resources wisely while customizing your weapons.
Once you craft a mod, you can equip it on any compatible gun. For example, if you make an Electric Ammo mod and decide it doesn’t suit your X295 Wraith build, you can remove it and put it on another weapon.
Mods, like skills, can be upgraded with more resources. Upgrades generally boost the benefits they provide and may help reduce any drawbacks associated with them.
How to Customize Weapons
All your mods are equipped through the armory menu. Select a weapon and create a custom loadout. You’ll see all the available slots for that gun. Click on a slot to view your mods and pick the one that fits your strategy.
When you add mods, you’re creating a customized version of the weapon. It won’t be the default version, so you’ll need to buy this specific setup either at the start of a mission or between rounds in the game.
You can also customize the look of your weapons by applying skins, trinkets, or stickers. This adds a personal touch to your loadout.
Best Weapon Mods
Since each weapon has its unique strengths and weaknesses, there’s no single perfect mod for all guns. That said, here are some popular choices:
- Armor-piercing rounds: Suitable for most standard firearms, these enhance damage, penetration, and cause enemies to stumble, with the only downside being a slight decrease in accuracy.
- Reflex sight: Improves accuracy and handling without any tradeoffs.
- Extended or lightweight magazines: Either provides more ammo capacity or faster reloading, depending on your choice.
- Fast-action receiver: Boosts your fire rate and damage output.
- Enhanced foregrip: Improves a gun’s accuracy and helps reduce recoil.
