Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined introduces a completely revamped vocation system. With the new Moonlighting feature, characters can equip two vocations at once, increasing strategic options. The Let Loose perks serve as powerful Limit Break-style abilities, making the choice of vocations critical. This tier list ranks all vocations—from the character-specific starters to the advanced, high-level classes—to help you assemble the best party for saving every island.

Whether you’re a returning player or trying Dragon Quest 7 for the first time, knowing which vocations are strongest will help you build an effective team and get the most out of the Moonlighting system.

How the Tier List Works
Our rankings consider several factors: the strength of each vocation on its own, how well it works with Moonlighting combos, the usefulness of its Let Loose perk, the spells and skills it can learn, and its role in unlocking higher-tier vocations. The tiers are as follows:

  • S-Tier: The top vocations in the game. They feature exceptional abilities, strong Let Loose perks, and great flexibility with Moonlighting. Focus on these for your team.
  • A-Tier: Very good choices that form the backbone of a strong lineup. Not quite at the top but highly recommended for consistency.
  • B-Tier: Solid options offering useful utility and serving as necessary steps to unlock higher classes.
  • C-Tier: Niche roles with limited use, mainly for fulfilling requirements to access better vocations. You won’t want your characters staying here long.
  • D-Tier: Situational vocations with limited benefits.

S-Tier Vocations

These represent the pinnacle of power. The Hero vocation is especially notable for its versatility—combining devastating attacks like Gigagash, reliable revival with Kazing (with 100% success), and support spells. It is the most well-rounded main class. Other top-tier roles include:

  • Druid: The ultimate spellcaster with a wide array of powerful offensive and support magic. Maribel is the character to excel here.
  • Champion: Combines Gladiator’s offense with Paladin’s defense, making it a formidable tank and damage dealer.

Top-tier capabilities include:

  • Access to omnipotent healing and damage spells.
  • High synergy with Moonlighting combinations.
  • Powerful Let Loose perks that significantly boost combat prowess.

A-Tier Vocations

These classes are excellent for most parties and form a core part of successful builds. They act as stepping stones to the S-Tier and offer balanced power and utility:

  • Sage: Master of offensive and healing magic, with the Twocus Pocus Let Loose perk doubling spell effects—ideal for big damage moments.
  • Gladiator: The premier physical attacker with skills like Falcon Slash and Multislice.
  • Paladin: A reliable tank with healing capabilities, great for support.
  • Priest: A fundamental healing role that revives allies, cures ailments, and fully heals the party with Let Loose.

B-Tier Vocations

These provide useful utility and are key for progressing towards greater power:

  • Luminary: A support specialist with buffs and debuffs; difficult to replace in a balanced team.
  • Armamentalist: Hybrid mage-warrior, excellent for offense against various foes.
  • Monster Master: Has some unreliable skills but offers useful effects when combined with supportive classes.
  • Pirate: Combines Sailor and Thief skills, effective for sustained combat and fun physical offense.
  • Mage: Has guaranteed critical spells with Oomph and Rage perks, useful throughout the game.
  • Martial Artist: Provides value through critical hits and high attack bonuses, especially for physical Moonlighting combos.
  • Warrior: Early-game staple for fighting metal enemies and grinding.
  • Fledgling Fisherman: Unique starter vocation with useful perks like Ocean’s Devotion, shielding allies.

C-Tier Vocations

These have niche or limited uses, mainly serving as prerequisites for unlocking other classes. Master them efficiently and move on:

  • Thief: Useful for inflicting status ailments but unreliable.
  • Shepherd: Can replace Priest early on; offers some offense, but limited overall.
  • Sailor: Good in specific battles for skills like Body Slam and Lightning.
  • Dancer: Flashy but less useful than more advanced support vocations.
  • Troubadour: Some decent Let Loose effects but overall less impactful.
  • Mini Mayoress: Some utility early but should be replaced once vocations are unlocked.
  • Wolf Boy: Has inconsistent utility, with better options elsewhere.

D-Tier Vocations

The weakest options in the game. Focus on passing through them quickly:

  • Jester: Skills are unreliable with harsh stat penalties; only useful for unlocking Luminary.
  • Destiny’s Dancer: Basic and unnecessary once better classes become available.
  • Chevalier: Limited benefits, easily replaced.

Getting through these vocations rapidly helps focus your party on more powerful classes that truly shine in the later stages of the game.
