In Hades 2, there are many useful resources to find along your journey through the Underworld and on the new path leading to the Surface. This new route allows you to find more collectibles, including a material called Bronze. Bronze is important for upgrading some of your strongest weapons and tools, so keep an eye out for it.
Depending on your skill level and how good you are at gathering materials, you’ll unlock the Surface after a few hours of gameplay. At the start, a ward from Hecate blocks the way to the Surface. However, this can be removed by completing the right Incantation. Once you gather all the necessary ingredients, you can respond to the Olympians’ call for help and venture above ground.
Where to Find Bronze in Hades 2
Getting to the Surface requires the correct spell.
As mentioned earlier, Bronze can only be found on the Surface in Hades 2. This means you’ll need to finish several runs in the Underworld before you gather enough materials to unlock the wards blocking the way. Luckily, once you do, you’re free to explore the Surface as much as you want for more resources.
You unlock the path to the Surface by casting a specific spell at The Cauldron, located at the Crossroads hub. Between runs, you can cast the “Permeation of Witching Wards” Incantation to break Hecate’s wards and open the new pathway.
When you reach the Surface, you’ll notice you gain a condition called “Chthonic Fate,” which makes your HP drain quickly. After your first death on the Surface, Moros will give you a recipe to resist this debuff using the “Unraveling a Fateful Bond” Incantation.
To complete this Incantation, you’ll need the ingredients listed below:
Material | Amount | Where to Find |
---|---|---|
Cinder | 1 | Defeat Hecate on an Underworld run |
Moly | 3 | Found randomly in Erebus |
Shadow | 1 | Crafted via alchemy from Psyche, Ash, and Fate Fabric (learned from Chaos) |
Getting Cinder and Moly is fairly straightforward, but Shadow is trickier. To unlock Shadow, go through the Chaos Gates that occasionally appear as you travel through the Underworld. This leads you to Chaos, who teaches you how to craft Shadow through alchemy.
Eventually, the recipe for Shadow will appear in the Cauldron, allowing you to craft the last item needed for Surface survival. The good news is, you no longer need the Crescent Pick in your inventory to gather Bronze from large Bronze Piles on the Surface—this feature was added in the official update with version 1.0.
How to Farm Bronze in Hades 2
Start by exploring the first map you encounter on the Surface.
Bronze deposits appear randomly and cannot be predicted, as they spawn in different places each time. The best approach is to explore thoroughly during shorter Surface runs. Most Bronze appears before the boss fight with Polyphemus, in the initial area you enter when reaching the Surface.
Since Bronze can spawn anywhere early on, including the City of Ephyra and Charon’s shop, loot every Bronze pile you come across. You typically get about three pieces of Bronze per pile, which adds up quickly.
Completing rooms fully gives you the best opportunities to find Bronze and other resources like Silver. A couple of quick runs can produce a good amount, but after fighting Polyphemus, the resource yield drops, so it’s best to end your run then if you’re farming Bronze.
Collecting enough Bronze helps you improve your weapons and tools, making it worth gathering every time you go to the Surface. Even though Bronze is rare, visiting key spots and thoroughly exploring will keep your pockets full without wasting your time.
