Radstags are mutated deer created by the radioactive environment left after the Great War. Despite their eerie, post-nuclear look, these mutated animals still provide useful resources for both settlers and raiders in Fallout 76.
You can gather their meat, hides, and blood for survival, trading, crafting, or completing quests. While Radstags are common even after the fallout, certain locations are better suited for hunting if you need quick kills or specific materials.
Updated on November 6, 2025, by Andrew Scariati: The list of Radstag locations in Fallout 76 has expanded over time as new areas are added, existing ones are changed, and new events influence spawn patterns. If you’re looking for the best places to find Radstags, we’ve got all the top spots covered.
### What Radstag Variants Are There?
In your travels across Appalachia, you’ll encounter 12 different types of Radstags:
1. Radstags
2. Radstag Yearling
3. Radstag Doe
4. Erratic Radstag
5. Erratic Radstag Doe
6. Albino Radstag
7. Rabid Radstag
8. Devolved Radstag
9. Devolved Radstag Doe
10. Glowing Radstag
11. Sickly Radstag
12. Obervant Radstag
Each type has a different chance to appear, but Glowing Radstags are more reliably found near Seneca Rocks Visitor Center. They can drop notable items like Radstag meat or hides, plus other rare drops. The Sickly Radstag often drops fragrant venison, nuclear waste, glowing meat, and glowing blood, while Glowing Radstags drop nuclear material, glowing meat, or glowing blood. Since the Albino, Rabid, and Sickly variants are rarer, you might need to check multiple locations to find them. These deer are generally calm unless approached—so observe from a distance if you prefer.
### The Most Reliable Radstag Locations
While Radstags can be found randomly across Appalachia, there are specific spots where herds spawn more consistently:
– Near Gauley Mine and Seneca Rocks Visitor Center are top accessible places; you can fast-travel to these landmarks and step out to find Radstags nearby.
– In Toxic Valley, a small herd can often be found west-northwest of the Crater along the border.
– Positions in Savage Divide, like Thomas Farmhouse east of Dent & Sons Construction, often host multiple Albino Radstags.
– Twin Lakes near the Marigold Pavilion are good for finding Radstags in the southeastern area.
– On the path up into the mountains at Whitespring Golf Club, 2-3 Radstags usually appear.
– Behind Whitespring Resort, a backyard pond often has Radstags grazing.
– Just north of Whitesprings Resort at Safe N’ Clean Disposal, herds appear unpredictably.
– In the Old Crimora Mines area of Skyline Valley, Radstags spawn but the location may vary with game updates.
– Between Lakeside Cabins and Summerville along Route 87, Radstags can appear in varying numbers.
– Hemlock Holes in Toxic Valley and the nearby junkyard are common spots.
– Near Wixon Homestead in the Forest Region, Radstags are often present, especially around Gilman Lumber Mill.
– At Black Bear Lodge in Toxic Valley, a small herd roams the flat open areas.
– Near Gauley Mine or along the train tracks by Gauley Mine, Radstags are frequently spotted.
– The area southwest of Seneca Rocks Visitor Center also hosts large herds, including Glowing and Albino Radstags.
Keep in mind that Radstag spawns are timed—others may have already claimed the herd before you arrive. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, try switching servers to find fresh spawns.
While exploring naturally is an option, starting at key locations like Gauley Mine or Seneca Rocks Visitor Center increases your chances of finding Radstags easily. In Toxic Valley, just roam around to stumble upon herds, and always check the creature of the title before shooting albino Radstags, as some variants like the “Observant Radstag” are rumored to signal hidden stashes during random encounters called “Follow The Trail.”
