Death Stranding 2: On The Beach – Connecting with Preppers
In Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, just like in its predecessor, you’ll encounter many Preppers. These are solitary survivors dispersed throughout the landscape, each focused on their own survival and the items they’ve gathered during their isolation. Your mission is to link them all to the Chiral Network.
You’ll meet a significant number of these Preppers during your journey, but some will require extra effort to find and connect. Prioritizing your connection with specific Preppers early on can be beneficial, as they provide Sam with valuable tools and abilities.
It’s worth noting that not every location, such as cities and distribution centers, counts as a Prepper. However, for ease of discussion, we’ll include them here.
Which Preppers Should You Connect With First?
As you progress through the game, you’ll encounter various Preppers, cities, and distribution centers across the map. Since your ultimate goal is to connect Australia to the Chiral Network, you’ll inevitably meet most of them through the storyline. However, some locations might not prompt you to visit, so it’s helpful to be aware of them.
In Mexico, every Prepper must be connected as part of the narrative, ensuring you meet them all. Australia, on the other hand, has many Preppers that might be missed unless you actively seek them out. Up until you connect with West Fort Knot, there’s just one optional Prepper available, but many more will become accessible as you head north.
Keep in mind that not all Preppers will have orders with one another to facilitate connection to the Chiral Network. You’ll often need to locate and deliver their Lost Cargo.
The Best Preppers to Level Up Early
Some crucial Preppers can be met early in the game, and most will be involved in the story. Yet, it’s easy to overlook them later and not return to boost their Connection Level. The rewards you receive at later levels are incredibly beneficial.
La Madre/Villa Libre
La Madre is the second Prepper you encounter in the game, introduced as part of the main story. After you meet her, she will join the Chiral Network, providing you with the PCC blueprint to construct your own structures. However, the benefits don’t stop there.

Old Oz/The Government
Old Oz is the first Prepper you’ll meet upon arriving in Australia, representing a fragment of the Australian government striving to rebuild. His rewards focus on arming Sam against the chaos around him.

Peter Gates/Western Environmental Observatory
Peter Gates, stationed at the Western Environmental Observatory, is the next significant character you’ll encounter. Before you can connect with him, you’ll need to clear out some enemies. Once you restore the facility, he will reward you with powerful items.

The Lone Commander is the first optional Prepper you can connect with, following a Sub Order from Old Oz. After completing his Missions, he will agree to join the Chiral Network.

Should You Max Out Every Prepper Right Away?
In short, it’s not necessary to max out every Prepper immediately. The initial levels are relatively easy, but reaching levels four and five will consume more time and effort. Focus on a few key Preppers instead of constantly traveling back and forth.
Standard Orders are the primary method to increase Connection Levels, but they come with cooldowns. Strategically planning your deliveries alongside story progression is a more efficient use of your time. Remember, Preppers aren’t going anywhere, and you’ll always have people in need of a porter.
However, there is an APAS enhancement that reduces the downtime for Standard Orders, which can help streamline the process.
