With over 400 Digimon options available in Digimon Story: Time Stranger, there’s a partner for everyone. Whether you prefer dinosaurs, quirky little creatures, or powerful knights, you’ll find a suitable Digimon. Every Digimon has its own strengths, so choosing not to use any isn’t wrong — it depends entirely on your playstyle, and there are many ways to build a strong team.
As you progress deeper into the game, battles become tougher, especially on Mega or Mega+ Difficulty. Having a well-balanced team is essential for success. While there’s no single “best” Digimon, some stand out for their performance and usefulness.
### Best Mega Digimon for Endgame
Once you reach Agent Level Seven, you can unlock Mega-level Digimon. These are the strongest Digimon outside of a few Mega+ options available after reaching Agent Level Eight.
Every Digimon can fit into your team, provided you manage attributes correctly, include buffers and debuffers, and have at least one primary Physical or Magical attacker. If you’re unsure which to pick, here are some top choices that bring valuable utility to your team.
#### Varodurumon
Varodurumon is a Vaccine Attribute Digimon. The easiest way to obtain it is by evolving Falcomon into Kiwimon, then into Deramon. It’s one of the top Mega Digimon due to its strong stats and two signature moves.
It features Aurora Undulation, a 55 Power AoE attack with added effects: it damages Digimon with the Evil Trait, always hits its target, and can remove enemy stat buffs. This is especially useful as bosses often boost their stats mid-battle, and Varodurumon can help counter that by removing those buffs.
Later, you can DNA Digivolve Varodurumon into Chaosmon: Valdur Arm with BanchoLeomon for a move called Aurora Blaster, similar to Aurora Undulation but only unlockable before facing the final boss. However, it’s not a direct upgrade, so you might prefer other forms of Chaosmon.
Additionally, Varodurumon can use Purge Shine, which clears all status effects and blocks enemy buffs for three turns — invaluable against final bosses like Dianamon that rely on status skills. Its high INT and SPI make it effective both for damage and healing, and its speed makes it suitable as a buffer or debuffer.
#### Venusmon
Venusmon is a Vaccine Attribute Digimon, obtainable through the line from Syakomon to Shellmon to MarineAngemon. She excels as a Magic attacker and is arguably the best healer in the game, with excellent debuffing abilities.
Her first signature skill, Peace Fantasia, deals fixed damage but guarantees a 30% reduction to the enemy’s ATK and INT for three turns — essential for tougher battles. Her second skill, Love You, heals based on her SPI and removes all debuffs, which is critical for high-difficulty fights.
Equipping her with personality skills like Fortifying Charge can boost her buffs, or Hustle Cry can extend buff durations. Her good SPD allows her to start battles by buffing her team or debuffing enemies early on. Despite lower HP and DEF stats, these can be improved through training without hurting her main stats. Overall, Venusmon is a versatile and powerful team member.
#### TyrantKabuterimon
TyrantKabuterimon is a Virus Attribute Digimon, accessible by raising Tentomon, especially one with an ATK-Boosting Personality, from Kuwagamon to Okuwamon.
Though it may not have the best signature attack, its high ATK and SPD make it a strong physical damage dealer. Its signature skill, Bee Cyclone, grants a 20% reduction to physical and magic damage for two turns and boosts resistance to Steel attacks, making it invaluable in tough fights.
Since Tentomon is a starter unlock, TyrantKabuterimon is easy to build early and carry throughout the game. In high-difficulty scenarios, using Bee Cyclone can help endure powerful attacks and crowd control. Its utility makes it a top pick for a physical attacker or tank, especially when you need a quick, high-impact move like Bee Cyclone.
#### UltimateBrachiomon
UltimateBrachiomon is a Data Attribute Digimon. The easiest way to get it is via X and Brachiomon. It’s a strong physical attacker with balanced high ATK, HP, and DEF, favoring those stats over SPD.
It comes with signature skills like Ultimate Blast, a wind-type, single-target move that lowers enemy wind resistance, and Ultimate Quake, an AO Earth attack of high power. Its high ATK, HP, and DEF also make it a capable tank, especially if you focus on Wind elements and strategic use of Ultimate Blast. Alternatively, with high DEF, it can serve as a dedicated tank using Hate Charge for taunting enemies.
Thanks to its versatile skills and solid stats, UltimateBrachiomon can fulfill various roles — damage dealer, tank, or utility. Investing in its strength stats will make it one of the best physical or defensive Digimon in your team.
#### Plutomon
Plutomon is a Virus Attribute Digimon, best obtained through DemiDevimon, Devimon, and then Astamon. It’s a versatile physical attacker with impressive signature skills.
Hell’s Gate is a powerful single-target attack that lowers DEF by 30% for three turns, effectively granting a free Guard Bind effect. This is highly effective for challenging bosses and physical-focused teams. Haggard Cluster offers a strong AoE attack for regular battles.
Plutomon is fast, with decent SPI, allowing it to also act as a magic damage dealer or backup healer if built for that. Its ability to apply debuffs and deal damage in multiple ways makes it useful in almost every team.
#### Apocalymon
Apocalymon is an Unknown Attribute Mega+ Digimon, obtained through DemiDevimon to Devimon and on to Piedmon. It’s one of the few magic attackers with a natural bulkiness.
Its signature move, Darkness-Zone, doesn’t show a damage number but deals 20% of Apocalymon’s HP as damage every time, and it can’t miss. Building high HP ensures consistent, reliable damage against any enemy, regardless of buffs or weaknesses.
With over 6,000 HP at level 99, Apocalymon can be trained up early to reach high HP levels. Its high HP makes this attack especially powerful, effectively bypassing attribute weaknesses since it doesn’t depend on stats or attribute interactions. Besides Darkness-Zone, it’s a capable magic attacker with good SPD for quick buffs or debuffs, and its unique attribute minimizes weakness issues.
