The Spear-Breaker is one of the three unique characters in Norse: Oath of Blood, bringing years of skill and strength to the battlefield. As the loyal bodyguard of the Viking twins, Sigrid and Gunnar, he plays a key role in the fight.
His special abilities make him stand out within the team. He mainly uses a heavy two-handed axe and specializes in powerful attacks. Here are the top abilities to pick when playing as the Spear-Breaker in Norse: Oath of Blood, and tips on how to use him effectively.
The Spear-Breaker is a unique soldier that only Arn, the bodyguard of the twin nobles, can command. Together, they form a team to defend their village and seek justice for their fallen Jarl.
His abilities are divided into two categories after he levels up: Oathsworn and Veteran. As his team fights in various missions, they earn experience and can rank up. The more they participate and succeed, the faster they advance to higher ranks.
To see how well each unit is doing, or to add new skills and gear, go to the Hirdmen tab and select that unit.
Note: Once you pick an ability, you can’t undo the choice, so choose carefully.
Abilities in the Oathsworn column focus more on dealing damage, while those in the Veteran column emphasize strategy and applying debuffs to enemies. Your choice depends on your preferred play style, but we suggest the following abilities to enhance strategic combat:
| Ability | Type | Rank | Description |
|——————–|————|———–|———————————————————————————————-|
| Iron Will | Veteran | Bondi | Inflicts Crippled status on nearby enemies, preventing movement and reducing Reflex to zero. Gains +3 Armor until your next turn for extra defense. |
| Pass The Meat | Veteran | Oathsworn| When a Knockback triggers Attack of Opportunity (AOO), you can counter with an attack. |
| Dead Leg | Veteran | Viking | Deals 4 damage, breaks 1 armor, and Cripples for 1 turn. If the enemy is Prone, damage increases by 50%. |
| Expose Weakness | Veteran | Housecarl| Attacks have a 50% chance to make enemies Vulnerable, increasing damage taken by 50%. |
| Giant’s Fury | Oathsworn | Legend | An area attack: strikes the ground, causing damage and debuffs over 1-3 tiles with varying effects, including damage, Armor Break, and Prone infliction. |
| Gjarllarhorn | Oathsworn | Einherjar| Inflicts Vulnerable on all enemies, and heals allies by 25%, restoring them from Prone. |
For more damage focus, you can replace Giant’s Fury with Ragnarok from the Veteran column, which deals 10 damage to all enemies within 20 tiles. This move is especially useful when enemies group around the Spear-Breaker, as it hits many targets at once and emphasizes raw damage over debuffs.
When starting a battle, position the Spear-Breaker at the front, leading the charge with Gunnar. His good health and experience make him suitable for active engagement. As a Bruiser-type unit, he’s best placed upfront, ready to dish out heavy hits. Keep him close to Gunnar but be cautious with his Mighty Hew attack, as it can harm allies on neighboring tiles.
