Running around blasting mutants with friends in Guntouchables is enjoyable, but doing solo runs can be just as fun and more challenging. You’ll face the same missions and enemies, but it’s just you against a lot of foes, so you’ll need to adjust your playstyle a bit.
You’ll need to be more cautious with your health and ammunition since hordes of mutants can take you down more quickly when you’re alone. You might want to avoid taking risks that you’d be okay with in co-op, or consider that since you have three lives, you might even play more aggressively than usual.
How to Survive While Playing Solo
If you’re playing alone, focusing on damage and speed is most important because you’re on your own with three lives. Increasing your base speed using the Speed Buff perk helps you outrun mutants, giving you more time to eliminate them and saving your Dash for critical moments.
Adding Mods that boost your weapons’ stats allows you to kill enemies from a distance before they get close, which helps you stay alive longer by reducing the damage you take.
You can choose any character, but Commando is generally the best for solo play. His grenade does huge damage and can clear out large groups of enemies. Plus, his grenades replenish whenever you restock ammo, and he gets bonuses for using machine guns, making him a very versatile choice. This can make arena survival easier, and each victory unlocks another crate with chances for upgrades, perks, or mods.
Having extra speed becomes even more critical on higher difficulty levels because enemies take more hits and deal more damage. Avoiding damage is key to staying alive when enemies like the Warrior become part of the mix.
Another important strategy is managing risk versus reward. After completing the main objective of a level, you can choose to move to the next or stay and fight more enemies to gather extra loot, perks, or mods from additional crates.
Conserve Exploding Barrels for Hordes
When playing solo, hordes are especially dangerous because they come at you from all directions, and one effective way to reduce damage is by using Exploding Barrels. Many levels have several barrels that do damage when they explode and leave behind a fire zone that damages anything passing through.
Since regular enemies are usually smaller groups than hordes, it’s better to save these barrels for when hordes approach—when enemies come in lines or groups that can be taken out with one or two explosions, or at least weakened significantly.
Use Your Pistol as Much as Possible
Without allies to share ammo, conserving your ammunition is vital. The default pistol is a good fallback because it has infinite ammo and can still take out many basic enemies effectively. It’s also handy for dispatching enemies like Ticks without wasting valuable bullets from your better guns. Additionally, it’s useful for breaking boxes, especially if your character doesn’t have an infinite melee weapon.
Bonus for Solo Play
While running solo is more dangerous because of the enemies, it has one big advantage: you have three lives. If you die, you respawn right where you were, and you get the chance to clear out nearby enemies before coming back.
This bonus doubles if you have Commando’s Out With A Bang perk, as he will drop a grenade upon death that can take out even more enemies nearby.
Having all three lives allows you to make some mistakes, gives you extra time to learn boss attacks, and can be used strategically to clear enemies and regain health if you’re close to dying and out of Medkits, provided you’re willing to lose a life in the process.
