Menace is a challenging game that clearly shows how tough it can be from the start. To succeed, you need a well-rounded team, and understanding your opponents is key to winning.
Since the game provides limited tutorials, it’s important to be proactive with your squad and mission choices. Here are some helpful tips to make managing everything easier.
Note: The game is still in early access, so some details here might change later.
Hire More Squad Leaders
At the start, you can choose four squad leaders, but as you progress, you can get many more. It’s essential to have a variety of squad leaders ready because they can become tired after several missions. Having extra leaders allows you to switch them out when needed.
Always Use As Much Supply As Possible
Each mission limits how much equipment and supplies you can bring. Every piece of gear takes up supplies, and some squad leaders will need more supplies than others. The more squad members you bring, the more supplies you’ll use.
Supplies are tied to the mission, not a separate resource, so always maximize the amount you bring. Use the full allowance to boost your firepower and options during missions. The more prepared you are, the better your chances.
Don’t Forget to Upgrade Your Ship
Your spaceship, the TCRN Impetus, is your base and travels across the galaxy. It’s crucial to keep upgrading it regularly because new components become available as you earn trust with factions. Use OCI to install these upgrades, which can include repairing vehicles, unlocking special attacks, and gathering better intelligence on enemies. These improvements are vital for your success.
Update Your Equipment
Every squad needs specific gear like primary and special weapons, armor, accessories, and sometimes vehicles. The gear you bring influences your squad’s effectiveness, so keep an eye on their equipment.
Missions that involve human enemies often reward you with new gear. The black market also offers a constantly changing selection of items—never pass up the chance to upgrade your equipment, as better gear can make a significant difference.
Keep an Eye on Your Squaddies
Your squads are made up of a leader plus additional troops, known as squaddies. These extra troops increase your damage output and health but also raise your supply costs. Squaddies regenerate slowly over time, and you can request more from the black market, though this can be very expensive.
Be careful not to put your squads into unnecessary danger. Even if squad members heal between missions, there’s always a risk you might lose some permanently. Investing in a Med Bay on your ship is a smart move, as it offers a chance to rescue downed squaddies during missions.
Build Up Your Intelligence
Before starting a mission, you can survey the map to see enemy locations, objectives, and terrain. While this helps in planning, it’s not enough for team composition—this is where intelligence comes in.
Having good intelligence means knowing the parameters and details of your enemies and mission. Upgrading your ship with sensors gives you consistent intel, making planning your squads more precise. Though it may not seem necessary initially, once you have the gear, it becomes an essential tool for success.
