Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo is a visual novel and puzzle game made by Square Enix, known for being very spooky. The story follows several main characters as they face tempting curses they can use and chase after the legendary Rite of Resurrection, a power believed to bring the dead back to life. The game is highly non-linear for a visual novel, allowing players to explore different routes and make choices that influence the story.
This walkthrough guides you through each chapter, showing how to progress safely. Straying from these instructions might cause your characters to face harsh or deadly outcomes.
Updated February 28, 2025: We added details about the Suspend feature and its role in the game, along with the significance of a specific character’s chapter.
General Tips
Since Paranormasight is a visual novel, many chapters mainly involve reading character dialogues and examining nearby objects. Only a few chapters include puzzles or specific interactions.
Some chapters are simply about talking to characters and exploring your environment. To move forward, keep talking to characters and examining items until a checkmark appears. You might need to look at certain things or finish other dialogue options before unlocking all options.
The game is divided into chapters. At certain points, you will need to complete other characters’ routes before the story continues. When a chapter’s icon is covered by TV static, it indicates you must pursue other routes first.
A key mechanic is the Suspend function, which lets you pause a chapter and switch to a different character’s route. This isn’t just a convenience—it’s often necessary for progress. Some chapters explicitly prompt you to Suspend, while others stall without explanation until you do so. Actions and information carry over between routes; if a character learns something important (like a phone number), that knowledge becomes available later, but only after witnessing it firsthand. If you’re stuck, suspending the chapter and progressing elsewhere usually solves the issue.
Shogo Okiie’s Route
Initially, Shogo is the only playable character, and you can’t access the Story Chart mechanic. The gameplay here is very linear, with less obvious chapter transitions.
Start at Kinshibori Park. Talk to Yoko and use Think and Recall for hints. After the flashback, examine everything in the park and then Yoko herself to advance.
Talk to Yoko repeatedly and when something flashes on the screen, turn the camera down to her, then look at the sky when prompted. Approach her again, examine her, and call the ambulance. Then, inspect the object beside Yoko.
Look around for a shadowy figure; call out to him and exhaust his dialogue. Face Yoko again.
Note: This is your first death, but thanks to the Storyteller, you can try again. Keep talking to the mysterious man, exhaust his dialogue, and then use Recall. Persuade him about the ambulance, leading to a chance where he might activate the curse yourself or Shogo might do it.
Next, move to the Shumoku Bridge Area to find a 100-Yen Lighter. Continue exploring South Warigesui Street, examine the environment, and interact with the shifting object in the distance using the lighter.
Proceed to Ho’onji Bridge, call attention to the man there, talk to him, and unlock more locations. This will conclude Shogo’s initial story, unlocking the Story Chart.
Using the Story Chart, return to Kinshibori Park from the part where Yoko’s situation is critical. Persist in talking to Yoko until you can yell her name. That completes Shogo’s route.
The following chapters will be listed with actions needed to finish each route, emphasizing choices and interactions.
Harue Shigima’s Route
Begin at her designated scenes, always exhaust dialogues, and examine environment objects like newspapers, buildings, and items to gather clues.
Key steps include analyzing specific objects (like curse stones and documents) and making dialogue choices that progress the story—such as showing curse stones or revealing details. Certain interactions, like suspending the chapter to go elsewhere, help to advance the route.
In the final segments, you’ll explore locations like the Shigima Residence to find Harue’s phone number, fix the pen with nail polish remover by examining the desk and supplies, and then proceed to contact outside help via the fax. Witness all scenes in the Darkness chapter before ending it.
Completing Harue’s route often depends on earlier chapters, especially those in Tetsuo’s story, as events build on each other.
Tetsuo Tsutsumi’s Route
Start at the crime scene, examining surroundings and dialogue. Proceed through the first parts, then go to Ryogoku Bridge to examine the shadowy figure and Yutaro; lower your voice volume in options to avoid detection.
Move to Midoricho Park to investigate curse stones and other clues. Engage in dialogue options about curse stones, murders, and investigations. Use suspending and resuming chapters where necessary to follow all leads.
Progress through chapters involving various locations like Komagata High School, talking to students and teachers, gathering and analyzing evidence. Pay attention to key dialogue options and puzzle clues, such as deciphering seals in the Yin Scroll, which require specific order.
Make choices during confrontations and investigations that lead to the story’s climax, choosing dialogue options that reveal truths about the curses, characters, and the curse’s origins.
Yakko Sakazaki’s Route
Begin by interacting with the spirit board. Carefully recite the phrases and ask the spirit about Michiyo’s death.
In flashbacks, pan the screen to overhear conversations and maintain visual contact with Mio to keep her awake during Mayu’s flashback. Examine cabinets and secret codes, such as the foundation date of Hihaku Soaps, to unlock mechanisms.
Investigate the room thoroughly, fixing items with nail polish remover if needed by suspending and resuming chapters. Find contact info (like Harue’s fax number) to reach outside help, and witness all scenes with Mayu to see her full story unfold.
Use the Think action and examine stickers in the desktop drawers to ensure all scenes are viewed, necessary for progressing this route and unlocking secret endings.
Mayu’s Chapter (Unique chapter)
This chapter switches chapters via the Story Chart, focusing on examining the room, removing floating words, and recalling identities like Hajime and Mayu to piece together the story.
Interact with environmental objects—examining lights, lockers, cabinets—and enter codes derived from previous clues, such as 1946, to access hidden compartments with essential tools.
Fix items like the pen with nail polish remover, obtain a phone number, and gather evidence like the curse stone. Follow prompts to examine further scenes, culminating in Mayu’s escape and uncovering the true nature of the curse.
Note that several other chapters depend heavily on completing Mayu’s story first, as events here influence all character routes and the overall storyline.
