We first learned about Mega Evolutions in Pokémon X and Y, but Pokémon Legends: Z-A brings them back in an even more exciting way, showcasing dozens of new Mega forms of beloved Pokémon. These new forms make battling even tougher, as each Pokémon gains a more intimidating appearance and stronger powers.

Not all Mega Evolutions look equally impressive. Some Pokémon become cooler and more threatening, but others end up looking a bit goofy or funny on the battlefield. They are still powerful, but sometimes at the expense of their original charm.

Mega Floette
Type: Fairy
How to Get: Evolve Flabebe
Mega Stone Location: Defeat your rival in the Infinite Z-A Royale

Although Floette isn’t a legendary, it has become a recognizable icon in the Kalos region, especially in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. You’ll often see AZ’s Floette, but you can also find your own in the gardens around the city. After defeating Urbain or Taunie (depending on your trainer’s gender), you’ll receive the Floettite to Mega Evolve Floette—though the Mega form sacrifices some of its cute beauty for a colossal Eternal Flower that grows openly, somewhat overshadowing the Pokémon’s small and adorable appearance.

Mega Gyarados
Type: Water/Flying
How to Get: Evolve Magikarp or catch a Gyarados
Mega Stone Location: Quasartico Inc.

Gyarados has long been known as a fierce Water Pokémon, and this strength continues in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Whether you catch a Magikarp in Lumiose or find a Gyarados later, Mega Gyarados retains its power. However, in Mega form, it looks less intimidating than before—its massive fin looks menacing, but the overall body seems to shrink, giving it a surprising and somewhat comical “shrimp-like” vibe compared to its usual fearsome serpent appearance.

Mega Heracross
Type: Bug/Fighting
How to Get: Trade a Pikachu to Tracie or catch a Heracross
Mega Stone Location: Quasartico Inc.

Heracross remains a favorite among bug-type fans, and in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, it becomes a true powerhouse. Its Mega form significantly boosts its stats, making it vital in speedrun strategies. Yet, the design looks a little silly—its cheeks puffed out, strange arm and leg shapes, and a surprisingly goofy horn. Still, its horn packs a punch, making it a bug friend worth having despite the odd look.

Mega Slowbro
Type: Water/Psychic
How to Get: Capture Slowbro
Mega Stone Location: Defeat Rogue Mega Slowbro

Slowbro is known for its odd yet iconic design, especially with the Shellder hanging onto its tail. In its Mega form, it becomes even more bizarre, with the Shellder gnawing up over its torso, acting as a creepy, living bodysuit. If you evolved a Slowpoke into the Galarian form, note that it can’t Mega Evolve, which adds a different twist to this very goofy but beloved Pokémon.

Mega Clefable
Type: Fairy/Flying
How to Get: Capture Clefable or evolve Cleffa
Mega Stone Location: Quasartico Inc.

Since its first appearance in Generation VI, Clefable’s Mega form looks quite different—its wings become butterfly-like, and it sports a tiny beret. However, its eyes look vacant and a little odd, creating a somewhat silly appearance. This transformation is unlocked after defeating Jacinthe and reaching Rank B in the Z-A Royale, allowing you to make your Clefable Mega, even if it looks a bit quirky.

Mega Greninja
Type: Water/Dark
How to Get: Evolve Froakie
Mega Stone Location: Certain Ranks in Ranked Battles Seasons

Fans love Greninja, and in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, it gets a hilarious Mega form—standing upside down in an inverted pose. Its Water Shuriken becomes a sticky ceiling, adding to the weirdness, which has become a fan favorite for laughs. This Mega evolution was among the first revealed, with its amusing upside-down stance capturing everyone’s attention.

Mega Feraligatr
Type: Water
How to Get: Evolve Totodile or find Feraligatr
Mega Stone Location: Not specified

Feraligatr remains a powerful starter, especially for Water trainers. However, its Mega form features a giant crocodile skull mask that looks silly more than intimidating. The mask seems more goofy than fierce, often more distracting than fearsome when exploring Lumiose City.

Mega Dragalge
Type: Poison/Dragon
How to Get: Evolve Skrelp or capture Dragalge
Mega Stone Location: Quasartico Inc.

Dragalge’s Mega form is funny in its own way. Its wings are large, shiny, and purple, matching its main body, but the oddest feature is the pair of eyeball antlers on its head. The eyes on its face stay normal, suggesting they might be for distraction—though it makes us chuckle every time we see it look around.

Mega Victreebel
Type: Grass/Poison
How to Get: Evolve Bellsprout
Mega Stone Location: Defeat Rogue Mega Victreebel

Mega Victreebel is instantly recognizable because of the iconic scream it gives in the anime. Its Mega form is also a source of laughter among fans, who think it’s a bit over-the-top and feel Pokémon are catering a little too much to nostalgic fans of Generation I.

Mega Starmie
Type: Water/Psychic
How to Get: Capture or evolve Starmie
Mega Stone Location: Ranks in Ranked Battles Seasons

Starmie isn’t usually a top-tier Pokémon, but in its Mega form, it looks quite silly—especially as it follows you around Lumiose City. Its strange legs and the overall bizarre appearance have become a hilarious sight for players, mixing comedy with a touch of horror.

Many of these Mega Evolutions, while offering stronger stats and unique abilities, come with designs that are sometimes more amusing than intimidating. Their transformations add fun and flavor, even if they don’t always improve their looks in serious ways.
