Mario is heading to space in 2026 for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and to celebrate, Nintendo is finally releasing both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Announced during September’s Direct, these games are not just simple ports; they don’t seem to be remastered, but they will offer more than just the original Wii versions.
Although the Mario galaxy movie won’t arrive until April 2026, you won’t have to wait that long to play these games on current Nintendo consoles. The upgraded versions of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released on October 2, 2025. Pre-orders are now available, and details for placing your orders are provided below.
Pre-Order Details for Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2
If you laughed during the Galaxy movie reveal, thinking, “Looks great, but they’ll probably charge $70,” you’re right. Pre-orders for the twin-pack are now open, and whether you’re playing on the standard Switch or the upcoming Switch 2, it will cost $69.99.
This is not the first time an improved version of Super Mario Galaxy is available on Switch. The original Galaxy was also included in Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a collection released five years ago for Mario’s 35th anniversary. If you already own that version and don’t want to pay $70 again, there’s another way.
Nintendo is selling the games separately, with pre-orders available now for each. They cost $39.99 each. Buying both individually will save you $10 compared to the twin-pack. If you prefer a physical copy, that option is available, and links for pre-ordering are provided below.
There’s been no indication that Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 will be limited releases like the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, so hopefully, they’ll be available for a longer period.

New Features, Visual Improvements, and Amiibo Support
The upgraded versions will allow you to play in 4K on Switch 2, while the original Switch versions will run in 1080p. Nintendo has also improved the user interface, added a new assist mode, and included a soundtrack feature so you can listen to music from both games whenever you like.
Since Galaxy and Galaxy 2 were originally released on the Wii, they came before Nintendo’s amiibo era. To make up for this, Nintendo will release first-ever Galaxy-themed amiibo for Mario and Rosalina. Mario’s amiibo is based on the original Galaxy cover art, and Rosalina’s shows her sitting in a chair, reading her storybook to Lumas. These larger-than-usual amiibo will cost $29.99 each and won’t be available until April 2026, likely alongside the movie, helping to remind fans of the Galaxy games six months after their launch.
