In Baldur’s Gate 3, taking down the Goblin Leaders is a major goal in Act 1, and these enemies can be quite formidable. Minthara, Dror Ragzlin, and Priestess Gut need to be dealt with—either killed or rendered unable to fight—if you want to save the tiefling refugees and protect Emerald Grove. There are several ways to handle each one that don’t always involve fighting head-on. Here, we share the best strategies for defeating the Baldur’s Gate 3 Goblin Leaders, assuming your aim is to eliminate them rather than join forces.
How to take down the goblin leaders in Baldur’s Gate 3
We’ll get into specific details for each leader below, but here’s a quick overview:
– Priestess Gut: Persuade her with parasite influence to lure her away and eliminate her privately.
– Minthara: Sabotage her route by collapsing the bridge as she crosses, or use Halsin the druid to deal heavy damage. If you knock her out instead of killing her, she might join your team in Act 2.
– Dror Ragzlin: Keep your distance to attack stealthily from above and push enemies into the spider pit for an easy kill.
How to kill Priestess Gut
The simplest of the goblin camp leaders to deal with is Priestess Gut. If you have Astarion in your party, stand near Gut and cast the Friends spell to make her easier to approach. Chances are, you won’t even need this, as the parasite from your mind flayer tadpole can persuade her that you share a dangerous secret. She’ll offer to speak privately about your shared condition. Follow her away from the others, into her chambers.
Once inside, close the door and attack her quickly. You’ll need to take her out in one round—otherwise, she’ll call for help, alerting nearby goblins. If fighting her directly proves tricky, use a spell like Hold Person to stop her from escaping before you can finish her off.
How to kill Minthara
Minthara is one of the main enemies among the goblins. The easiest way to eliminate her involves a simple arrow shot. First, speak with Minthara at the goblin camp and convince her that you want to help attack Emerald Grove and attack everyone inside. When she steps outside and crosses a suspended bridge over a dark canyon, aim carefully and shoot an arrow at the part of the bridge that will break when struck. If timed right, she will fall to her death. It’s wise to save your game beforehand, just in case you miss and need to try again.
Alternatively, if you prefer to loot her outfit instead of killing her, you can fight her directly, especially if you have a friend like Halsin helping out. Also, knocking her out instead of killing her can be a good option; using the non-lethal option prevents the attack on the grove and allows you to meet her again later in Act 2 at Moonrise Tower, where she may even join your party if you rescue her from danger.
How to kill Dror Ragzlin
The leader of the goblin boss, Dror Ragzlin, can be best tackled with stealth and ranged attacks. Before confronting him, rescue Halsin from the Worg Pens behind Minthara’s chambers. Halsin is a powerful druid who can deal significant damage and help turn the tide against Ragzlin.
To reach Ragzlin’s room, use a rogue’s stealth skills: have Astarion hide and shoot the guard outside Minthara’s chamber for a key. Then, sneak into Ragzlin’s area with the rest of your team. Inside, rack up damage from above by climbing to the rafters, attacking with ranged or area spells, and pushing enemies into the spider pit to have the spiders do the work for you.
Once Ragzlin is defeated, you will have completed your mission in the goblin camp and defeated its key leaders! For more tips on turn-based combat, be sure to check out our Baldur’s Gate 3 combat guide.
Remember, stealth, clever tactics, and timing are often the best tools for taking down these powerful leaders without risking too much. Good luck!
