The battle at Fovoham Windflats takes place on a small, raised land around a windmill. This fight requires a different approach than previous battles.
The main challenge is Wiegraf, a White Knight who hits extremely hard. He is supported by melee units that can easily overwhelm a poorly positioned team. The limited terrain means close-range combat, so managing your units’ placement is essential.
Enemy List
- Wiegraf: The main threat. He uses Holy Sword abilities that are powerful, ranged, and ignore evasion. His damage is high, and the fight ends when his health drops to critical.
- Monks: Two quick and somewhat fragile but dangerous melee fighters. They can heal themselves and pose a threat if ignored.
- Knight: One bulky melee fighter who can dish out strong attacks but isn’t the biggest danger here.
- Yellow Chocobo: One fast, high-hitpoint enemy that acts as the healer, using Choco Cure to heal allies quickly. Eliminating Wiegraf’s health is enough to win; killing other enemies isn’t necessary but can make the fight easier.
Party Setup Recommendations
- Ramza: Make him a Knight with the best heavy armor and a shield. Set his secondary ability to items and keep High Potion and Phoenix Down ready. His role is to be a tough, self-sustaining melee attacker who draws Wiegraf’s attention or fights the Monks.
- Knight/Squire: Another well-armored unit, preferably with a shield. Use the Parry ability and consider an evasion-enhancing item like a Shoulder Cape.
- Chemist: Vital for quick healing and reviving. They should know Potion, High Potion, and Phoenix Down. Keep them near the back to support while avoiding Wiegraf’s Holy Sword range.
- Black Mage: The key to ending the fight fast. Use elemental rods matching their spells (like Flame Rod for Fira) and take support abilities like Arcane Strength if available. Casting a high-damage spell at Wiegraf can lead to an immediate victory.
- Delita: Usually rushes forward. Equip him with strong Knight gear to act as a distraction and buffer. Use him as a tank, making sure he survives to divert enemies’ attention.
Battle Strategy
The main plan is to contain Wiegraf and focus all your efforts on him. Proper initial placement is crucial:
- Position your toughest units (Ramza and the Knight) close to the enemy.
- Keep your Black Mage and Chemist slightly back, within range to heal or attack Wiegraf, but out of his Holy Sword reach.
- Don’t rush prematurely. Move Ramza and the Knight just enough to attract Wiegraf and the Monks to approach you.
- Use Delita as a meat shield. If he gets hit by Wiegraf’s Holy Sword, it saves one of your key units some damage—the turns spent healing him are better used elsewhere.
Since the fight ends when Wiegraf’s HP is critical, your primary goal is to land a powerful spell on him immediately. If Wiegraf is out of reach, focus physical damage on the Yellow Chocobo, which is fast and can heal allies, potentially prolonging the battle unnecessarily.
The core tactic is to use your Black Mage to unleash a high-level, elemental spell that can substantially damage or nearly kill Wiegraf in one hit. Multiple units should focus on him quickly to prevent him from retaliating with a deadly Holy Sword counter before he falls.
Key Points
- Use magic to take Wiegraf down swiftly.
- Position your tanks to block the monks and protect your healers.
- Heal aggressively with items, especially Phoenix Downs, to prevent unit deaths.
- Focus solely on Wiegraf’s health; defeating other enemies isn’t the main goal.
