Bloober Team has returned with another horror game called Cronos: The New Dawn. The studio gained recognition with their successful remake of Konami’s Silent Hill series, specifically the second game. Unlike that project, Cronos is an original game, although it clearly takes ideas from titles like Dead Space.
In the game, you play as the Traveler, an unknown operative tasked with collecting Essence. Throughout your journey, you’ll fight off Orphans—mutated humans affected by the apocalypse. The game’s challenges test your combat skills and your ability to manage resources wisely. Here’s how to survive the nightmare.
Burn Enemy Bodies
Like Dead Space, Cronos emphasizes dealing with enemies even after they’re dead. Orphans can merge with their remains to become stronger enemies. To prevent this, use your Torch to set the area ablaze and disintegrate corpses. Torch fuel dispensers will keep fueling your supplies, so you can burn bodies without worrying about running out, allowing you to clear rooms of enemies before moving on.
Upgrade Your Inventory Early
You start with just six inventory slots, and collecting items (except crafting materials) will reduce your capacity. Once you find a weapon, ammunition, and some healing items, you’ll have to decide carefully what to carry. Upgrading your inventory space early should be a top priority. Spend your initial Cores on increasing your capacity so you won’t have to leave useful items behind.
Make Use of Quick Crafting
Crafting is mainly done through a menu, but there’s a faster method for emergencies. If you have the necessary materials, you can hold down the button assigned to a weapon to craft ammunition instantly. This allows you to quickly restock even during combat. The same goes for patches—you can hold the healing button to use them without having to pause.
Look Out For Valuables
Valuables are unique environmental items that take up an inventory slot but don’t influence gameplay directly. They can be sold for a lot of currency, helping you buy weapon upgrades and easing enemy encounters. Collecting as many valuables as possible is a good way to stay prepared.
Increase Gun Charging Speed
Invest in upgrades for your weapons, especially the speed at which they charge. Holding the trigger will unleash a more powerful shot that does extra damage and conserves ammo. This is particularly useful early in the game when bullets are scarce. Upgrading this feature makes your guns more effective during tough moments.
Punch Enemies When They’re Staggered
After firing at an Orphan, they’ll stagger for a brief moment. Use this opportunity to punch them, dealing extra damage. Make sure to back away right after the punch animation to avoid being hit in return. Timing your melee attacks during stagger times can give you a significant advantage.
Seek Out Explosives in the Environment
Explosive canisters are common in the game. Use them to your advantage—detonate them near groups of enemies to wipe them out quickly and prevent merges. It’s one of the most effective ways to thin out crowded situations.
Don’t Be Afraid to Stash Items
When you reach save points, take the opportunity to store items in your stash. Items stored here can be retrieved later and can help you conserve inventory space. Crafting more powerful healing items and saving them for tough moments is always a smart move. You can also stash weapons if you’re not planning to use them or run out of room.
By following these tips, you’ll be better prepared to face the horrors in Cronos: The New Dawn.
