In the third chapter of Split Fiction, titled "Hopes of Spring," players can use unique shapeshifting abilities to navigate the environment and tackle various puzzles. Mio has the option to transform into a robust gorilla to gain strength, or switch to an otter (or other creatures) to swim. Zoe, on the other hand, can lighten up as a fairy or embody a tree to manipulate the forest.
One of the challenges features a bird puzzle where three bird eggs are positioned by a locked door. To solve it, you’ll require Zoe to take on her tree form while Mio transforms into a gorilla. Although the method for success is effective, it might not be very pleasant for the little birds involved.
How to Solve the Bird Puzzle
In the Lord Evergreen section of Split Fiction’s "Hopes of Spring" (following the Train Heist Side Story), you’ll find various tools that seem interconnected. In one corner, there are three birds, with one of them being partially hatched. You’ll also encounter a seesaw and a large tree trunk that appear to relate to the puzzle, as well as a locked door disguised as a boarded-up tree cavern. The goal is clear: open that locked door, but figuring out how to do this isn’t immediately obvious.
Begin by having Mio turn into an ape while Zoe takes her tree form. It’s best to handle Zoe’s part first, although it does involve some timing. As the tree, Zoe should pull the log back as far as it will go and hold it in place. Now, for Mio: she must pick up one of the eggs—it doesn’t matter which one—and carefully place it on the seesaw. Position it on the side that’s level with the log, which is the side closest to the door.
Next, Mio should move to the opposite end of the seesaw. With her gorilla strength, she can then slam down on her side. This action will send the egg flying upward. If Zoe releases the log at the right moment, it will swing forward and break down the door. Surprisingly, this not only opens the barrier, but it also completely hatches the bird, making your actions a good deed in the end.
If Zoe misjudges the timing, simply set it up again; there’s no permanent failure in this puzzle.
With the door finally open, you can continue your adventure in Split Fiction. However, if you’re aiming for every Achievement or Trophy in the game, your work with the birds isn’t finished just yet.
