Atticus is virtually the face of Highguard. He’s the most noticeable Warden shown in the game’s famous announcement trailer, where he’s seen wielding electrified spears. As an Assault Warden, playing Atticus means embracing his aggressive style—going for kills rather than using sneaky tactics like Slade does.
Highguard is a team-based game, and Atticus can be important for strategic pushes. Although his abilities mainly focus on dealing damage and collecting better gear, understanding how to use his skills wisely can greatly help your team and give you an advantage during tough fights.
### How To Use Atticus’s Abilities
The official descriptions of Atticus’s abilities are:
| Ability | Type | Description |
|———————|————-|———————————————————————-|
| Shockspear | Tactical | Throw a charged spear that shocks enemies nearby. Continuous damage charges his passive. |
| Supercharged Axe | Passive | A charged axe releases an electrical explosion damaging nearby resource nodes. |
| Powerstorm | Ultimate | Rise into the air and rain lightning spears that deal heavy damage to players and structures. |
#### Supercharged Axe
Atticus’s passive ability is simple but has an extra mechanic most players might not know. The Supercharged Axe allows you to harvest Vesper (blue crystals used for buying items) more efficiently. The secret is that if you perform the mini-game for collecting Vesper perfectly, your axe charges up. When fully charged, each hit will explode in a shockwave, destroying nearby crystals and resource containers.
#### Shockspear
Atticus’s tactical ability is very flexible and can make him hard to face. Hold the Tactical button to see the arrow’s trajectory, then release to throw the Shockspear. The spear sticks into whatever it hits and releases electricity around it, damaging enemies nearby. It’s useful for chip damage or area denial.
Be aware that enemies can shoot and destroy the Spear, so it’s best to throw it around corners or in hidden spots to keep it safe. For example, placing it inside doorways can stop enemies from rushing a point or give your team a few extra seconds. You can also throw it at the Shieldbreaker to prevent enemies from grabbing it immediately.
#### Powerstorm
Using Atticus’s ultimate ability, Powerstorm, is very impactful. The first time you activate it, you’ll likely be able to eliminate enemies from full health with just two hits near them (not necessarily direct hits). Keep in mind that you’re not invincible during Powerstorm—you can be killed while flying through the air. Timing your activation carefully and not being in the enemy’s line of sight is important.
Powerstorm also damages structures, making it useful for opening routes during a raid. For instance, if you’re trying to reach a bomb site, you can use Powerstorm to destroy walls and create flanking paths. Be cautious about using it while defending because a stray spear could help the attacking team.
### Best Weapons to Use with Atticus
Atticus’s wide array of abilities makes him a flexible fighter who can control the fight from a distance. An assault rifle is almost always a good choice—whether it’s a Dynasty, Vanguard, or Sabre. Since Atticus can carry the sniper rifle called Ranger (exclusive to Highguard) in his secondary weapon slot, that can also be very useful.
His Shockspear’s long range means positioning yourself well is key. A good idea is to use a Zipline Gun as your main tool for reaching high ground or quick escapes. Powerstorm destroys walls and structures, so you don’t need a rocket launcher. Staying elevated and out of enemy reach allows you to use your ultimate safely, and from high ground, you can set ziplines to other vantage points.
Don’t underestimate Atticus’s ability to gather Vesper, either. During sniper duels, having a strong helmet purchased from the trader is helpful. Vesper can also be used to stock up on armor or supply resources like Wall Repairs and Reinforcements, making Atticus capable of influencing the in-game economy to his advantage.
