By the time you get to the mural puzzle in Silent Hill f, you’ll be pretty familiar with placing crests into walls and doors. However, this part is trickier because the clues are more confusing than ever. With three crests and nine possible spots, trying to guess your way through won’t be effective.
Before solving the mural puzzle, you need to find three crests scattered around the area. These can be located by exploring towards the west, south, and east. The crests include a fox head facing forward, a black sparrow swooping down to the right, and a white sparrow rising to the left.
Where to Place Each Crest
The clues in Silent Hill f describe where each crest should go. The key part of the clue says:
“The Black Bird wishes to take the White Bird.
The White Bird wishes to resist.
The Fox brings his followers in triumph.
He notices not the two birds in conflict.”
To solve the puzzle, first identify the two foxes that seem to be in conflict. Near the end of a procession, one fox appears to be trying to pull a lantern away from another.
- Place the black sparrow (Black Bird) on the fox trying to take the lantern. This fox has a slot for a crest on its back. The black sparrow, flying away from the lantern, shows its desire to take the white sparrow.
- Place the white sparrow on the lantern that the fox is reaching for. The white sparrow flying up and away from the black sparrow indicates resistance.
- Find the leader fox at the front of the procession. This fox looks happy and proud, holding a fan in its hand. Place the fox crest in the slot on the fan.
If You Do a New Game Plus
When playing through Silent Hill f again for a different ending, the clues change slightly. For the second run, place the black sparrow on the lantern hanging from the palanquin, the white sparrow on the lantern near the sleeping fox, and the fox crest on the same fan.
Once all three crests are placed, the mural will dissolve, revealing a door. Your objective updates from “Solve the mural puzzle” to “Go through the door.” After this point, there won’t be many more puzzles, so congratulate yourself for making it through the challenging parts of Silent Hill f.
