The Silent Hill game features five different endings, known as Silent Hill f endings. If you’re curious about how to unlock each one, I can walk you through the steps. Keep in mind, the first time you complete the game, you’ll only get one ending since it’s automatically locked in and can’t be changed. To unlock certain endings later, you need to have saved data with at least two other endings completed. So, unlocking all of them is a long process—you’ll need patience and multiple playthroughs.
Here’s a quick overview of how these endings work:
- There are five in total—four serious ones and one funny, which is more of a joke.
- The first ending you see is only available during your initial game.
- Using New Game+ (NG+) allows you to access endings two and three.
- To get ending four, you need at least two other endings saved and then meet specific criteria.
- Ending five is accessible once you have a saved game with the required other endings.
Remember, the game’s difficulty settings don’t impact which endings you can get—they only affect trophies. So, focus on your choices rather than the difficulty level if your goal is to explore every ending.
Here’s how to unlock each ending:
Ending 1: Home to Roost
This is the only ending you can earn on your first playthrough. No special requirements needed.
Ending 2: Fox’s Wedding
Requires a NG+ save and no Red Capsules taken during your playthrough. You’ll also need to find or leave the Sacred Sword and take the Agura no Hotei-Sama.
Ending 3: The Fox Wets its Tail
Also needs NG+, but it involves taking the Sacred Sword without purifying it and not using the Agura no Hotei-Sama. No Red Capsules should be taken.
Ending 4: Ebisugaoka in Silence
To unlock this, you need at least two other endings on your save (excluding ending 5), obtain and purify the Sacred Sword, and offer the Brooch to the Ancient Jizo Statue during your final return home.
Ending 5: The Great Space Invasion!
Available with an NG+ save, this ending is more of a gag and doesn’t influence the main story paths.
Now, here’s a bit more detail on achieving some of these:
Getting Ending 1:
Simply finish the game without needing anything special. It’s your default ending, unlocked on your first run.
Getting Endings 2 and 3:
Start a new game+ and avoid taking Red Capsules. For the second ending, also find and either use or ignore certain items like the Sacred Sword or the Agura no Hotei-Sama, depending on the ending you want.
Unlocking Ending 4:
Make sure you’ve previously unlocked at least two endings (other than ending 5), gather the Sacred Sword, purify it by solving water puzzles during your final house visit, and offer the Brooch at the Jizo statue to finalize this ending.
How to find the Sacred Sword:
You’ll need to explore specific locations and collect offerings at five Jizo Statues along the way. These statues are scattered across different areas, often near shrines, bridges, or the mountain trail. Placing the correct offerings at each statue allows you to access the Sacred Sword at the Sacred Tree.
Purifying the Sacred Sword:
Use the Brooch received early in your first run to access the secret above-ground room after completing the final ritual. Initiate the Crimson Water puzzle, which involves ringing bells in a certain order—Earth, water, then wood—to turn the water red. When the water turns red, return to the Sacred Tree to purify the sword. This process only needs to be done once, and the purified sword will carry over into subsequent playthroughs.
Keep in mind, these steps involve multiple saves and careful choices, but they open up all possible endings in Silent Hill f. Good luck on your journey!
