The Burning Springs update introduces a significant new area in Fallout 76, including a fresh map location, new main quests, side missions, top-tier weapon mods, and more. If you started playing Fallout 76 because of your interest in the Fallout series on Amazon, you’ll likely be excited to see a familiar character making an appearance (no spoilers).
The journey to Burning Springs begins with the Welcoming Committee quest. Completing this introductory task is necessary before you can access the new content.
### How To Reach Burning Springs
Once you reach level 50 and have downloaded the Burning Springs update, you’ll get the Welcoming Committee quest along with a new radio signal in your in-game menu.
You can listen to the Ohio Distress broadcast, which guides you toward the western part of Appalachia, leading to a new zone called Burning Springs.
Fast travel to Point Pleasant, then follow your marker west until you arrive at the Silver Bridge. Cross the bridge and battle off the nearby Cultists and Feral Ghouls to arrive at a large scrap metal wall—this is Checkpoint Canyon.
In this area, you’ll face a tough fight against Rust soldiers and their powerful captain. Make sure you’re equipped with your best gear and something capable of dealing with Power Armor. This fight is challenging even for high-level players, but with a solid build, patience, and enough ammo, it’s manageable.
After defeating the captain, your marker updates to guide you toward the radio tower inside the enclosure. Climb the tower and go through the door where you’ll meet Ava. Once you talk to her—and explain you’re there to help—things quickly go wrong, and you’ll wake up knocked out.
### What To Do With Silas?
After waking up in a cage, talk to your fellow prisoners, Eugene and Silas, who will explain you’ve been kidnapped. Finish your conversation with Silas, then proceed into the arena. Climb the stairs at the far end to meet the Rust King.
You’ll face a choice to ally with Silas or Eugene. This initial decision doesn’t significantly impact the story, but the Rust King will give you a second choice:
– Kill Silas and gain free passage into his territory.
– Refuse, and fight off two enemy waves, including Rust Raiders and a Deathclaw, to prove your worth.
Regardless of your choice, Silas will die in the end—either by your hand or in battle. If you choose to spare him, be prepared for a tough fight against Rust Raiders and their Deathclaw, which can easily kill high-level characters, especially if you’re using a low-health build. The best tactic is to find high ground, shoot from above, and avoid getting caught on the ground.
Once the boss fight ends—either by killing Silas or defeating the enemies—you’ll talk to the Rust King again and gain access to Burning Springs.
### Rewards for Completing the Welcoming Committee
When you wake up after the final fight, you’ll have finished the quest and receive various rewards:
– Aid items
– Ammo
– 1,000 base experience points
– 100 caps
– Plan for the Welcome to Ohio Sign
– Plan for the Rust Raider light outfit
Completing this quest unlocks the next mission called Might Makes Right.
